Does anyone know what is meant by "missing a gear" or not being able to "find gear?"
I have heard these terms alot, like with short shifter ads and such. I was just wondering. Personally, I have never had a problem following the gates

I guess, not finding a gear is like whne u r trying to get into 1st or reverse, and it doesnt want to engage?
my theory for missing a gear is like, when u are about to put it in second gear and didnt put ur foot all the way down on the clutch and u grind. Ooooooh god, I hate that sound.(not that I do that, well, when I was a rookie maybe I did it once or twice )

well, to me, there's 2 types of misshifting/missing a gear.
1-you want to go from 1st to 2nd, but you don't let the clutch out far enough, it'll let you pop it out of 1st, but it won't let it into 2nd.
2-you want to go from 2nd into 3rd....you accidently go too far and shift into 5th....not very good for acceleration.
yes, I've done both I find it only happens when you're not concentrating.

or when downshifting from 5th to 4th and accidently tap reverse instead....opps
or when your trying to shift quick and hit in between say 2nd and 4th or 1st and 3rd

Ok, that sounds like what I thought.
I screw up all the time, BTW.
I ocassinally grind or go to the wrong gear.
hell, on my 2nd day of driving stick, my firend was with me. He was like "Go to 5th and open it up at this straight." I did, my first time ever in fifth since I had like 30 minutes of experience. Anyways, I had a turn to go to and I needed to be in second, I was in fifth still. I didn't want to go into reverse on accident, so I went over one gate. I was slowing, but I went into second. The revs shot up and I chriped/burned rubber while going over 30 mph. I almost lost the back end. From then on, I knew I was going to have fun, and I still am, even though I suck.
Ok, </end> story time.
Cliffnotes - 5th to 2nd downshifting is fun

Haha, missin a gear for me is cruisin and acceleratin in third, makin a pass and pullin it over and down into second instead of just down to 4th, and then watchin the needle shoot allll the way up to 7k , then shittin ur pants and pushin in the clutch asap....
not like that happened to me at all....haha

I had a video like that I posted months ago. A kids in a brand new not even broken in RSX S was racing. Shifting into 2nd at redline, shifting into 3rd at redline, shifting into4th at redline, wait, that's 2nd! He revved to like 11k

i don't know what you guys call it, but 'missing a gear' used to mean when you were racing you downshifted instead of upshifting, ie shifted from 3rd to 2nd instead 3rd to 4th. it used to be one in the same with 'dropping a valve' cause thats what you did when you 'missed a gear' but with the age of rev limiters upon us..
