Ok,... I'm installing a s14 sr20det into somebody's 96 s14 240sx... if I wire all of the f4's wiring into the m63 connector, is there any way the obd2 connector will still work for emissions readings? In my area, we need emissions, and I don't think they will do a sniffer test if they can't find the obd2 connector. Another thought is, what if I have the ka24de's ecu reflashed to run the sr using most of the ka's harness?... I know the VTC won't work then, so I should just do a s13 engine if this is the only way it will work.

Thanks,
Jesse

what about reflashing the ka's ecu to run the sr, will that work for the obd2?

NO

you cant reflash the ecu nor will the ka ecu be able to read the sr.

it just wont work and there arent any SR ecu's that are made for obd2... japan doesnt deal with that.

stop the swap and try and sell the SR and either build up a KA-T or invest into the LS swap. Thats the only legal options left unless you de-register the car for track only use-age

KA-T is not even legal. LS# swap arent even legal becuase of header clearance. No one has clear it yet.

If you want to stay legal. stay stock or buy carb legal products. Not even greddy turbo kits are carb legal yet.

I had a few friends in socal run KA-T and for the most part they made custom heatshields and spoke with greddy to obtain their CARB stickers and didnt have a problem with the ref's. LS-1 works as well .... for the most part if you make a swap/kit look stock/clean and run correctly *smog numbers* you wont have too much of a problem.

Here in az I have a friend of mine who just went to smog with his custom KA-T kit on his 96 and passed his smog and doesnt have any codes throwing either. Out here it is a bit more relaxed compared to socal however they do know how to hook up the obd2 port so we dont try anything beyond 95.

In some area's the ref's dont even know what they are looking at... Which can help some... where as others such as the cali ref's know a Sr and Ka difference. Check with a local forum to see what they have to say about smog... it may/may not suprise you.

ok, thanks for the help... It doesn't have to be completly legal, just as long as the obd2 connector still works, but I guess that's not going to happen. I have friends at the shop where I used to work and they can inspect anything that is obd1 and earlier for me, its just the damn obd2 shit that is holding me back, agh.

I talked to my friend... he said that if the obd2 connector doesn't work, he can still pass it. :)
