is it normal for it to be a little rough going into second gear. its never grinds or anything but you can "feel it" going into gear if you know what i mean.... its just kinda rough. i just had the tranny fluid changed cuz my tranny switches were leaky and i got them replaced and my fluid at the same time. i though it would solve all of my problems but i still notice something. also, could my clutch pedal being soft have anything to do with this like maybe it isnt fully disengaging. its mostly just into second gear. and reverse its a little tough too. or could it possibly be my synchros or something. anybody have any advice to offer on this subject? if so i'd appreciate. if not....dont reply lol.

i'm sick of this "search" bullshit for EVERY question. IF thats how these forums are, there should be no members, and just one large search archive.

Anyways.... My old tranny used to do that.

A couple things you can try.

1. Bleed clutch lines

2. Try REDLINE synthetic fluid. I believe it is 80-90w that you need, but i'm not positive. Just be sure you dont use the typical 30 or 40 weight stuff like the GM Syncromesh that some may recomend(but its too thin!)

I'm thinking the syncros are just worn. Even if thats the case, some say the redline fluid will help.

thank fuckin god that there is one inteliigent person on these forums...but anyways yeh i have some redline mt-90 in there right now and ill try bleeding the clutch but unfortunately i think it might be the synchros. i know that they themselves dont cost much but the labor probably does. is that something really expensive to have done or should i just live with it?

Before you take out your transmission and do a lot of "pain in the ass work" or pay a boat load of money to someone else, do the following.

Bleed your clutch and make sure that you have enough fluid in the resevoir.

Make sure that neither your Master nor slave clutch cylinders have leaks or cracks.

Does this problem occur frequently or infrequently? If the problem occurs only while the car is cold and disappears after warm up then it's most likely due to the fact that you're using a high viscosity transmission fluid.

well yeh it definately is worse when its cold and yeh yer right, its due to the fact that i am using a high viscosity fluid but it doesnt completely go away whens its warmed up but it is a lot better. i was just wondering is everyone experinces this or if its a little worn out. car has 118,XXX miles

Mac, use 1qt of 75w90 and 1qt of lightweight shockproof redline. I used to have a smiliar problem. And I was even letting the car warm-up fully. Mt90 isn't that good of a blend. After I put this in, it is so smooooth

You guys are looking for intelligent answers, yet the original question is basically asking if it's typical to have a 'rough' feel in the transmission going into second gear. I think intelligence would dictate that of course there's not supposed to be any rough feeling, in any gear. Past that it's common sense to assume that the synchro for that gear is worn or damaged, otherwise it wouldn't be feeling 'rough'. Nothing clutch or fluid related is going to correct the problem because if that was the case it would be 'rough' throughout all gears and an issue with engagement, low fluid, or input/output shafts. Again, that's just common sense to know.
It's like asking if the car is supposed to run bad with one cylinder not firing, of course it is, and there's an obvious reason why.

Test by double-clutching and see if the roughness goes away. If it does, you have bad synchronisers.

r240na is a tool who just trys to fuckin patronize people because he thinks he knows what hes talking about. so do us all a favor; throw your keyboard away and take up a more suitable hobby for yourself like fashion design or something else that gay people do.

I answered your question dead on. Rough second gear, all others are good = bad second gear synchro.

All gears rough to engage would be something completely different. If you couldn't read that, buy a book called "Reading Is Fundamental". It's great for ignorant fucks like you.
And for the record, I do know what I'm talking about. If that means I patronize stupid people then so be it, at least I did them the favor of answering their question anyway. I could have just told you search and watch you cry for 20 minutes like some of the other guys did, but I didn't. If you don't like the help you're getting you can always leave, I'm sure the kids over at NICO would gladly welcome another pissant like yourself, just don't expect to find any answers for anything unless it has to do with comic books, Harry Potter, or Nintendo.

hahaha. well he started it. lol just playin. but anyways ill try this again, if it was the synchros wouldnt it be rough EVERY time going into 2nd? cuz its not perfect for all the rest and my clutch is super soft. also one time i just couldnt get it to go into first. so thats y i think it has something to do with my clutch. cuz the pedal is soft and it is an intermitent problem. i just thought if it were the synchros it would be bad every time? correct me if im wrong. Nicely please lol

kandyflip..go watch some anime no one asked u...

You posted this thread asking a question. You DID ask.

Did you even try bleeding the lines? Did you remove the clutch damper yet? What fluid did you use? Why are you an ass? :smash:

There synchro can just be worn, as in the blocking ring doesn't have sharp edges anymore. Make sure that the lines are bleed well and take that damper out. First and second typically wear out faster than other synchros because you use them more.

And why the hell are you being a douche about people telling you shit and then you go and second guess everything everyone tells you. You came on here asking for an answer and you got a few. Then you get butthurt and then keep screwing around with the matter. Go fix the damn problem/try what has been told to you and come back with new information.

but u didnt answer my question. if the synchro was worn wouldnt it be bad everytime time? but it could be clutch related possibly like if i am not getting constant pressure due to a cracked slave or some air in the line or something like that. im kind of a noob so u gotta spell it out for me lol
