View Full Version : I think my S13 has seen its final days...

Hey everyone I could use some tech help from the 240 tech veterans :).
OK so heres the story, I went out driving in the mountains last night. I do this about 3-4 times a week if possible. But anyways I was having an amazing run and I was on a run that leads me home kuz it was time to go and i was noticing a big loss of power. I stopped pushing the car and just drove the speed limit. after I got 1/2 way down all my accessory lights turn on revs drop to zero im guessing it stalled out, I tried to roll start it but would not start back up. my steering got very hard like someone was pushing against me, also my brake pedal was not working it would not even compress down it was like it was locked in place it would go down about 3/4 an inch. I used the hand brake as my brake to get to the closest pull off. ( I was coasting down in nuetral). I had to get towed home.

My car has 160,4xx miles on the engine. I cant figure out if the engine blew, my alternator went out, or anything else that could have gone wrong with it. Also FYI, My coolant resevoir is cracked and can not hold very much coolantat all. This morning when i looked at everything I noticed the coolant resevoir has nothing in it.

PLEASE HELP... any idea? Im bringing it to my dads mechanic tomorrow. If it is the engine I'm rebuilding with reinforced cyllanders and dual cam.

sounds like something in your bottom end? spun rod bearing maybe? the coolant reservoir ha snothing ot do with it. maybe it had no coolant and you overheated it and blew the head gasket?

Look for belts!!!!! missing belts etc!!

Well the reason your ps and brakes wouldn't work was because your car wasn't on to provide pressure to power said items.

You couldnt've been more vauge to describe the problem.

Like what happens when you turn the key?

Does the starter just free spin?

You need to post more information if you expect a diagnosis.

when i tried to start it up it just cranks without starting and come to think of it I noticed like last week it was taking a tiny bit longer to start up but the sound it makes is the same sound it always makes on start up before it starts idling. But I dont think my starter going out would happen in the middle of a run or stall my car out like this...

All the electrical still works. i can still play the radio or music if i want. The only difference for lights that come on now is now the check engine light and battery light are on but The battery is relativly new, Its about 4-5 months old.

about the belts I havent checked them, but my friend told me I should do that also so I'll do that first thing in the morning.

take it to a mechanic theyll figure it out in no time.

before it broke did the check engine and battery light flash? if they did your alternator could be shot.

:'( thats what everyone was asking me, to be honest I didn't notice because i was preoccupied on not crashing using handbrake and fighting steering.
Dad is towing to his mechanic tomorrow. I know its probably the alt. but im going to try and tell the mechanic to con my dad into the engine rebuild and ill pay for the cyllanders and dual cam out of my pocket. Wish me luck

fyi I'm doing the rebuild instead of the SR swap because I want to try and keep my car legal or as legal as possible because I dont want to deal with all that hide from the cops bull... but just for curiosities sake... For all you guys that do have have the SR20, ever been pulled over with it? If so Get caught for it and what you had to do for whatever happened to u? I know I'm changing the thread topic sorry >.<;;

There is a, "I have a sr and I was just pulled over" thread every day.

Go ka-t. If you have the skill to install/dismantle it, you shouldn't have any problem.

Plan where you want to drive, and don't boost everywhere.
