It's not stupid at all, its a pretty good idea, anything to save money is a good idea, just make sure you get the rigth dimensions and make sure they do a good job. You also might want to have someone take a look at it before you install it just to make sure it will not mess up your car.

Hope it works out for you.

Umm the best would probably be a shop that would be able to install something like that. Or you could ask any local people that know a good deal about turbo cars.

Just make sure you have some money set aside just in case anything bad happens.

Ok. I just went through this. Intake piping for a turbo KA, and not intercooled... but I still had to have pipes bent.
The only problem is pipeing is expensive. Don't expect people to hand it over to you. Also... the lengths and bends are CRITICAL. You have about 1 inch of leeway to get through into you bumper, and then after you've bent the pipe into the bumper, you now have to get dead on measurements to attach to your intercooler. Then another hole with about an inch of leeway, and back into the throttlebody. Then a hole in the cold pipe for a BOV, and a re-circulated (hopefully) tube back into the hot side with more welds and more holes.
Good luck with friends and free shit. But then again... good luck getting your daddy to buy your SR motor after you sabotage your KA.

How much were you going to spend? I can get you a Spec R S15 intercooler right now for $230, and the guy said he will give me all the pipes, since he got a Nismo intercooler. I don't know how heavy it is and how much it is to ship by post office, but maybe I can help you. PM me if you want it.

Geez, Loren. You sure are harsh on everyone. Not everybody has been so blessed as you to know so much about everything car related. Lighten up.

nah if anyone besides for Griffon2k, nrcooled, or uuninja had asked that i would have answered politely. it was just that they were calling me a newbie. just because someone is new to a board doesn't mean they are stupid.

Hmmm lets see, nrcooled is running an sr20det in his car, uuninja has a KA-T so how about you SHUT THE FUCK UP Loren?

Anyways, back to the topic, I'm kinda going through this too now, with jeff explaining me why f-max kit sux and how putting up a turbo together is cheaper. So I might be wrong, but from what i read, crush bent piping (what you get from a muffler shop) is much worse with intercoolers than it is say with exhaust. So if anything, i'd rather have mandrel bent intercooler piping. Anyways, blitz has a kit ($800) for an sr with piping and everything. Cheack optauto.com. For the KA it's tougher and i haven't found one yet (anyone knows of one??) so i would prolly have to have it crushed

and what is this 2000 hp you talk about. I have ~450HP in my driveway. And I know someone with about ~1400HP in thier driveway.

So how many cars add up to 2000HP, and keep in mind stickers only count for 5HP, unless it says turbo inside then its 20HP.

In no way am I doubting your knowledge on cars. Bieng called a newbie means your new to this board. Doesn't mean you stupid (sometimes it does), but you are just not used to how to respond to people on here.

70 el camino 550hp(468ci NA, BBC, 10.5:1 compression), 70 corvette 380hp(350ci, 350horse from the factory, +intake, carb, cam and 30 over rebuild) 500hp 76 vega (350ci, 350horse engine + 150 of it was n2o) transam 310hp, tahoe 270hp, s10 blazer, 160 (i think.. give or take some)... anyways the sports cars alone make 1740, plus my moms buick 190hp and the trucks brings us to a grand total of 2360... would been 2550 is if i still had my maxima...

note: i don't own any of these, they are all my dad's, except for the buick. and i said garages because we don't have a 8 car garage, we have a 2 car garage attached to the house and a shop.
