View Full Version : Tool to hold Timing Chain in place???
My friend is going to help me change the headgasket, and he says there's a tool to hold the timing chaing in place to keep it from moving. Not sure if you wedge it in place or what. He'll come over to help me when I get the headgasket and the tool, but I don't know what it is? Anyone have an idea what tool he's talking about?
He explained to me that doing it this way he wont have to mess with setting the engine at TDC and all that mumbojumbo. Makes sense to me, if its the same concept you use when taking out the distributor and marking its positon or w/e...
Thanks.

the "actual tool is a wedge piece of plastic. You can pick one up from your friendly neiborhood snap-on dealer.
Or just use the block of wood

Where and how do you place it accurately and safely?

Ahhh, thanks. Do you have a part# for the Snap-On one? I think I found what I'm looking for but not sure if this will work for the KA24DE. I think it might.

i dont know why this is such a big issue for people. I cant even count how many times ive pulled the sr head or any chain head for that matter with the engine in the car. Usually i use a piece of small copper wire (like maf wire) and tie the chain on one end and tie the other side to the place where the old ka ignition coil used to be mounted, so long as it is tight and pulled to one side youll be fine. make sure you spray down the tops of the pistons and cylinder walls with some wd40 and wrap it in a plastic bag to prevent corrosion.
alright thats enough post for one day lol
off to octoberfest
