I've always felt the best writing experience comes form a quality wooden pencil.
I recently came across these pencil extenders online.

I can't seem to find a place online to get 'em. Anyone know of any retailers that carry Japanese stationary items such as these?

I have a couple of these and they are uber rare amongst the art community. JDM art supplies. :D
If you don't mind the hexagonal ones or triangular ones you can find those at Blick Art Stores.
