Hi all, i just picked up a 1995 s14 and it is awesome, but has many quirks i'm struggling to work out.
First, i would like to know what a safe fuel pressure is to run with my setup (see the end of this posting). Without an afc, is there any way to know whether it's running too rich or lean? If it makes any difference, i would rather adjust it cautiously and not get peak hp out of it than make it run as lean as possible but risk engine damage. I'm planning on generally running 13-16 lb. of boost, 18 would be the absolute max. but only as a scramble setting. The previous owner said 18psi is safe on pump fuel and 26psi on race fuel.
My next issue, which may be related, is that my car seems VERY sensitive to the outside temperature. When it's warm the car will start and idle ok, although if i let off the gas suddenly in neutral (or when stepping on the clutch) the engine may die. In cool weather it's worse - the car will start and run for a few seconds then die unless i'm stepping on the gas. And the throttle response between idle and about 2.5k rpm's is very poor and sputters.
Mod List:
SR20DET Redtop
Peak Boost exhaust manifold, down pipe, and dump tube
GT3071R
HKS Type-S intercooler
GReddy intake manifold
Power Enterprise head gasket
JWT S4 cams
HKS cam gears
GReddy valve springs
HKS SSQV blow off valve
Z32 MAF
Nismo 740cc injectors
Nismo adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Fuel pressure gauge
Dyno Rom Tune (i think Enthalpy)
JWT Z32 pop charger
TAil 38mm waste gate
My knowledge about the mods are limited as i bought the car this way and it's my first 240/silvia (previously had a 300zx), but if i can provide any other useful information that i've omitted please let me know. I really appreciate any help - thanks!
