APC Quad headlight conversion

By Josue (Racerboy)

NEED:

· 2 pairs of APC series 7(tm) headlight

· Drill

· Drill bits (cut through metal)

· Scissors or wire cutter (wire stripper)

· 98 cents Wal-Mart black pray can

· Phillips and flat head screwdriver

· Black tape

· Socket and wrench (optional makes removing cover easier.)

· 4 screws and 4nuts

after going through so much trouble I’ve decided to help those who bought APC headlights and found out that they had to have sleepy eyes all the time not because they wanted to but because they had to.

http://www.geocities.com/daron333/image002.jpg

Turn on your headlights and remove the retra fuse located inside the fuse box next to the car battery it should be the yellow one with a 20. Then turn off your lights.. This should keep the headlights up …

http://www.geocities.com/daron333/image004.jpg

The remove the black plastic cover by inserting the flat head screw driver in between it.. this should make the little plastic pin pop out…

After removing the cover unscrew the metal headlight cover.. there should be 2 bolt on each side use the socket and wrench so that u don’t mess up the screw slot…. Then simply disconnect the lights from behind.

After that remove the rectangular bracket that is holding the headlight.. it has 3 bolts and the spring holding it. (You should remove headlight while its attach to the bracket to save some time)

http://www.geocities.com/daron333/image006.jpg

You should have something like this….

http://www.geocities.com/daron333/image008.jpg

(mine is dirty and the paint is coming off….)

Now remove the two white plastic slots that were use to adjust the stock headlights.

Then fit the fog lights side by side inside the oval and mark with a pencil the last two holes of the fog bracket into the metal part of the headlight assembly….take some time on doing this you don’t want to drill a hole in the wrong place..

***** Warning make sure you clear the metal piece that is located near the fender because if not your headlight will not go all the way down and mig ht get damage. I barely did but was able to modify the hole to move away from the metal*****

http://www.geocities.com/daron333/image010.jpg

http://www.geocities.com/daron333/image012.jpg

After you drill a hole make sure your fog still fits correctly….

Cover your bumper, engine and fender with some newspaper and paint the inside of the headlight assembly.

After it dries off in about 3 minutes (nahh cant wait that long) attach the fogs in place by putting the nuts and bolts.

Lets start by wiring your fogs..

First of all cut the two metal ends in the positive (white) and ground cable (black).

Now cut the black plastic wiring harness were u usually connect your stock headlight…

Connect the fog light that you want as your low beam light with the red and black wire and the high beam with the white and black wire. the ground cables from the fogs should be combined and connected to the stock ground…

To have functional angel eyes use the wire harness that comes with the fogs but first remove the tape that is holding it together.

http://www.geocities.com/daron333/image014.jpg

The part u don’t need is the one with the fuse and the switch.

http://www.geocities.com/daron333/image016.jpg

Now combine the wires that power the angel eyes and connect them to the fog harness.

Tape the entire harness for safety issues(also to make it look better)

Then run the cable to the inside of the car . I send the wires inside the fender then I hooked up the angel eye button and send it under the dash boar.

Finally I removed the plastic under the button to glue it on the dash board.

Do the same procedure on the other side, put everything back together and you’re done……

They're Acura TL projectors, ZKW Lense mod, 4300K bulbs, hid retrofit on a dodge neon srt4.. Yes it's DOT legal. brightness has nothing to do with it. look at the cutoff. it will never hit the other driver's eye.

y u need that much light??? are u driving a freakin ambulance!!!!!!!
You need it because we're all blind at night. when you put hid in a correct projector with a cutoff, you wont blind anyone.

hid retrofits is as big as modding a 240sx. there's whole other world behind it.
http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/

A HID kit will never pull off such a great output like a retrofit.

racerboy, you should post your writeup on hidplanet halogen forum. they'll get great laughs.

Hah...Nah I actually know what I am doing. It really is great when I understand vehicles and realize things are worth doing right, or not at all.

I know at our shop we all have a good laugh when vehicles like yours come in the shop for repairs....The sad thing is that it's not usually just one thing done completely stupid, but it is a whole wack of things...

Klze 200hp naturally asp.. on a car with low resources.. where real car fanatics show skills to beat to socalled topoftheline crap......

ledzeppelin240

You call yourself real car fanatics but look what you posted about.... You don't have to be top of the line, just some knowledge and know how will get you good results...Both of which you obviously don’t have. Ohh maybe common sense too.

Haha, oh the irony.

A real car fanatic would also be concerned about safety dumbass, you dont need to drive an ambulance to have amazing lighting.

Dude thats sweet but why not just duct tape dual maglights to the inside of the housing and call it a day? it will be brighter.. or better yet hang a lantern from your front bumper but not a propane one because thats dangerous

I hope you understand you need Quality Driving Lights. Not some $20 Fog lights. You're going to blind people and they are not DOT legal.

PIAA are not that expensive. Hell, you can get Bosch Mini H3 Projectors for $45 a pair that will just destroy those APC's in quality of light and cut off.

NRG you know as well as I do that retrofitting HIDs IS illegal. They were legal when they were on the TL because they went through DOT certification, but putting TL HIDs into anything else that never had HIDs is illegal. You should be able to pass inspection just fine though because no one will raise an eyebrow if they are aimed correctly(which I know you know how to do).

nrg
09-27-2006, 02:06 PM
yes i know it's illegal to retrofit, but it's alot better than a blinding kit that will raise a red flag. The point to retrofit is to do it as if the manufacture would put hid on a car. If dropping hid kits in a halogen housing was good, then car makers would've done so.

I'm not from VA, we dont have car inspection. just smog.

RacerBoy, you sound like a catalog tuner lol.

^^^^^^^^^^
I can't believe CA doesn't have safety inspections, they are so anal about smog, so I just figured that they did. I guess they make up for it by allowing cops to write you assloads of tickets....hahaha.

NRG, do you know if the TL projectors will fit in the S14 kouki headlight housing? I'm thinking of doing that retro, but I'm worried about the solenoid interfering.

This is a chat forum for everyone to post their ideas.
Íf you don't like what he has to show just simply press back on your IE and get on with your life. I personally don't like the lights but that's my problem, I gave him the props for taking the time to post it.

DO NOT USE AFTERMARKET FOG LIGHTS OR DRIVING LIGHTS IN PLACE OF HEADLIGHTS. IT IS ILLEGAL, AND STUPID.

This "How-to" is basically useless. If we wanted to see a "How-to" on useless, redneck modifications, we'd link to an F-Body Forum. This thread is over. Hopefully anyone that finds it, will read the whole thread before attempting to duplicate the stupidity. You suggested using scissors in place of wire cutters/strippers, for God's sake! How much of a cheap ass were you when you built your Probe? If this is the kind of technical knowledge you have to share, please refrain from posting in Tech Talk. You'd be better off just reading, and learning.
