Ok, I have searched, I have not seen in the manuals that I have and now I am hoping someone has specs for the US s13 differentials. Currently I have a 91 fastback with a ka24de/5speed in it, non ABS non HICAS with the stock open differential in it. What I would like to know is, would the differential be the same in a 90 ka24e auto? I just want to be sure the gear ratios are the same for both differentials so I can use it as a spare before I go and pull it from the junkyard. thanks,

Yes they are the same, but if you find a hicas, it will have that oh so craptastic vlsd. I doubt the junkyard will charge any diffrently unless you tell him it's a vlsd.
The final drive is diffrent on a vlsd. But since I helped you out so far, you can search for more information it that.

S13 and S14 are the same diff types/model, the R200. the stock open diffs for all cars are interchangible (sp?)
But if you're gettin the hicas VLSD, might as well take the steering rack too.

The final drive is NOT different on a VLSD. All R200/R200V units in both S13s and S14s are 4.08:1.
The J30 unit is either 3.92:1 or 3.96:1, but that would not have anything to do with a HICAS S13 chassis.
