View Full Version : Car missed a few times tonight.

So as I was leaving my house to take a friend home..

(this was at night with the car cold)

I was part throttle, maybe 1/2 no less.. and the car fell on its face. Power choked, AFRs went extremeley lean and then went back down.

this happened maybe 2 more times maximum, and then everything was okay again. (on the return trip)

Any ideas?

Also, I've been trying to diagnose some other issues and I've noticed some patterns lately:

Daytime:
hot outside
Runs lean at idle.. really lean. Loading the electrical (turning on my headlights) brings the AFRs back to good. Sometimes feels like it misses when its hot out and I'm not moving fast.

Nighttime:
cold outside but effects occur even when car is hot
Runs rich at idle, when I unload the electrical (turning off my lights) the AFRs return to normal.

Nothing in my fuel maps indicates radical changes like that.
The only time my car seems to run right is when I'm more than half throttle.. mashing the car..

Details:
Ka24det, walboro, 550s, ZMAF, NO smog equipment, trunk relocation battery, tial 35mm wastegate, wideband

ecu's going bad....

or your maps are bad. (explains your nice power only above 1/2 throttle)

or ignition/power distribution is bad. alternator? wires? ground?

OR...... the data on your bikiboard isn't completely static. maps are actuallly changing? maybe the ROMs are leaking charge?

damn, i sound like i'm totally wrong......

are you still running the biki, or are you borrowing the emplthy?

I think he's using the enthalpy.

But by the sounds of it, I believe your tune is WAY off.

Even though your car sounds like it's running right, it could be that it's compensating.

You need to mess with your idle settings.

It's kinda hard for me to explan. Maby I'll hit you up later or something. haha.

But if it makes you feel any better, my car stubles when it's cold.

I'm using the biki still. The fuel maps aren't off 'cuz I've seen them. They're steady.

TPS is reading legit.

You think it has anything to do with your maf tube length?

I've got plenty of MAF tube for you, baby.

No, I have 16" easily of intake tube post MAF.

Is there any way to diagnose the ECU? Like.. something that would tell me if its that or some fucked up sensor that is playing with my emotions?

Nobody has anything?

well did you check codes?

how about testing the bikiboard on another ecu? oh and by any chance would you be willing to share your bin file?

I'm not throwing codes.

And resoldering the bikiboard into a new ECU would be a huge pain in the ass.. but I guess I can try it.. But I don't really want to..

Anyone have a 95 manual ECU I can test? *THAT IS IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION*

C'mon, where are all the electric gurus?! Come excersize my demons!

Here is why I don't believe its the "tuning" aspect of it..
For reference:
Target AFR is = (128/DATA)*14.7
and VE correction data is some arbitrary scaled number
IDT = 0.85
K = 328
Kmult = 96
AFM = 280

Wtf is 24, haha.

Closest I've been to canada is emeryville. As for my rep, the people love me.

Evan: Let me know if you grab a stock ecu... I need one so I can smog. haha.

I love Mel.. and I have big rep wee wee.

I'm gettin' one, but its out of state.. don't know if that'll pass here.

Well, my car is na right now, and that is the only thing keeping me back from smog.

You still have your stock exhaust?

Have you hardwired the fuel pump?

Sounds to me like you're losing fuel pressure...

Other things to check:

MAF wiring and plug (be sure it's not loose)
TPS - smooth, linear voltage increase?

The pump hardwire is on my list of things to do. hehe stupid school.

MAF plug is tight, wiring is soldered so its sturdy
and TPS reads good to me in both BikiR0m and wideband readings. I'll actually log one of my runs and see if I can get the problem to repeat then.
