I am in the middle of building my SR for my s14. My buddy is porting the head and the motor is completely torn down right now and being cleaned and bored. I am running a gt35r, cp pistons, eagle rods, and all arp hardware. This is going to be basically just a really fun street car/weekend driver. It may see the track occasionally but that's about it. I was given an oppurtunity to purchase some Brian Crower cams for a really really good price.
My question is do I go with the Stage 2 264's or the Stage 3 272's?? Any pros or cons either way. I need to order them tonight or tommorow morning at the latest so any input is greatly appreciated! I know there will be a lope with the 272's but that isn't really a huge concern. Thanks guys!

depends how big he is going on the head ports.

with the 272's your car wont like to idle when cold. It will also misfire when cold. They will also push your powerband back a little, but when that turbo spools it will kick nicely.

I would prob rec the 264 step 2's they are more streetable, has a better idle but still sounds nice, and will still spool that turbo acceptibly.

I believe he is planning on doing a pretty extensive port job, he likes to be able to see quite a bit of valve and get the split between the ports nice and sharp. He has built motors for all the fastest drag cars around and does the head work for the local Nissan performance shop so I basically just gave him the head and said do your thing.
My initial thought was the 272's but I am starting to think your right with the 264's. Thanks.

And Slidin, yes they are available now!

S13 or S14/15 SR?!?! I was in the impression that VTC dont like anything bigger than 256. If this is an S13, whats the lift on the Stage 2 and Stage 3? Also what are you doing with the valves? Over sized valves?

It is an s14 SR, the valves, springs, retainers, etc. are all being swapped. I don't know if there is a whole lot of gain to be had from larger valves but if were going this deep into it and I am buying valves anyways, why not I guess.

step 3 272's will lope like a muscle car... not very streetable.... but good for 5-600 hp

I too am building my SR and had the same question. I also hear the stage 2's are the way to go for a daily driver. Anyone know lift of the stock sr cams?

Yeah I jst bought some 256 step 1 but am thinking about changing them fo something bigger. I have vavle springs, ras and upgraded headgasket, but want something thats good for daily driving/drifting. Not sure if 265 are better or if I should just get step 2 256's.
