Hey i am just wondering if anyone else saw the smog checkpoint on niguel the other day. Luckily i was going the opposite way but they had one of those 20 car towtrucks and ramps so they can check under the car and a reff. My heart dropped when i saw it. That is the second one ive seen this week. If i ever get stopped at one im just gunna fly through they cant catch me.

haha but it isnt a waste of cash. they sit there all day with like one or two cops who wouldnt be doing anything anyways. When they actually do nail someone they are making bank off that reff ticket. And think of all the kids around with catless wrxs. I can name like 30 off the top of my head that i know of around me. Its also not just cars like ours they are also screwing guys over in older trucks and cars with old cats. The sniffer test screws everyone over. I say we just heatshield our whole engines. They would never notice a thing.

I got in an arguement with the cop that pulled me over for rolling a stop sign a few months ago. They need to focus on more important things like the highschool kids stabbing eachother and driving everywhere drunk. And it happens on a daily basis but 99percent of the time no one gets caught. But at least they are putting their foot down on people making their car funner to drive. Fuck that shit who wants a fun car anyways. They are just jealous cuz they drive around in 8000 pound crown vics all day that can only go straight.

Old news.
CARB has stated these checkpoints are VOLUNTARY. Simply deny the request and be on your way. These checkpoints are used for survey purposes only.

With my luck they would probably shoot at me if i denied it. But i guess ill give it a try.

Then you take them to court. Know your rights people, and defend them to the death.

09-23-2006, 03:08 AM
thanks for the info squidd. Couldnt they just let you go and then pull you over 30 seconds later. Becuase denying the smog checkpoint is suspicious and all they need is that. Also, how did you get your reff ticket.
TheSquidd
09-23-2006, 03:38 AM
Would you rather volunteer for a smog ticket? Or deny it to the end? I'll take my chances driving away, and explaining that obvious show of prejudice and damn near entrapment to the judge.
I got it for driving a totally obvious race car on the street. ^_^ And I loved it.

09-23-2006, 03:59 PM
voluntary????? puahahha dude Ive seen these things in montebello on montebello blvd. south-bound after costco. these fuckin things read the emissions coming from your car and if its too high itll take a pic of your plates, identical to the whole "run a red light camera" thing.
lexusisforlovers
09-24-2006, 01:40 AM
Thats ridiculous. Just take your plates off. I talked to a cop i know today about that checkpoint thing being voluntary. He said that as long as they have probable cause they can do the smog. and the slightest exhaust note is probable.

hhmmm they did this a long time ago when i was around 12 years old(im 20 now) when i used to live in tustin, california. Man that sucks.
I love living in Connecticut. The cops here dont give 2 shits. Both of my cars are catless. I drive them everywhere. 91 240 with an sr20 and a WRX wagon. Both passed emissions. I put a cat in my 240 and the suby has all the check engine lights turned off with my cobb access port. 1996 and newer cars dont get sniffed. Its all plug and play using the OBD2 port. You fail if your check engine light is on. If its not on your good to go!

california is crap hole.. i overheard the news broadcast yesterday that the Governator signed a new something againts streetracing again that people getting caught are facing a felony and 6months jail time.. doesnt apply to us, but can just imagine the added attention our cars will get by cops now.

Even though, I would still rather live here than any other state. I don't mind getting harassed by cops. Know why? I got nothing to hide (for now :keke:). When I do go turbo, I'll take the risks along with it and not whine and bitch like everyone else.

I dont get this shit. If you can afford to swap out engines and make your S-chassis into a fucking race car, why not spend some money on a stock ass $900 dollar Honda to daily drive so you dont have to get hassled.
If you went turbo just to show off on the street and at tapioca meets then you deserve to get pulled over.

^ Becuase it's a fucking Honda. Personally, I'd like to daily something fun. Modding a car is not for showing off. That's just a side perk. Modding a car IMO is for making it more fun to drive. I'd hate knowing I have this extremely fun car at home sitting in the garage while I'm out driving some wagovan. I'm building a fun car here, not a garage queen thanks.

So say they jack up your car, inspect it and smog it there on the side of the road...can they and will they tow it right on the spot, or will they just give you a state ref ticket?

All this week i have seen or heard of a few. First one was by the laguna skatepark. Not sure of the streets i read it on vwvortex. Second one I saw on niguel road. Third one my friend went through in his smog legal truck and called me about in aliso viejo. Not sure of the streets again. Fourth one i drove by after it was done but there was about 5 civic hatches on the side of the road and a few other modded cars. Probably fifteen cars total. That one was on crown valley parkway right by costco.

there is some spray you can buy for your license plates that makes it so when you take a picture of your car, it reflects the light and shows up as a bright blur in the picture. There has to be a flash, though, so it will work with red light cameras but not on the toll road or anything.
What do these smog stations do? do you get pulled over to the little station, or do they somehow smog everybody?

He's basically saying why risk getting your car, that has been put a lot of time and work into, get risked of getting taken away? When the remedy to lower those chances is just drive a beater on a daily occasion while you drive your "fun" car on "fun" occasions, dont TRiP FoO !! haha

Toll road always flashes when i got through it. And that spray isnt gunna help you. They "randomly" select cars to inspect/smog. Its basically like an alcohol checkpoint with a ref.

My friend who is LA County Sheriff confirmed that Hair spray will thwart the camera and radar. :duh:

Cuz insurance cost and registration will increase. And you don't have to have a swapped engine to have a race car.

yeah, thanks.
At each site, one lane of traffic is coned off for testing equipment. A CHP officer directs randomly-selected vehicles to that lane. . .
. . .In some locations, vehicles may also pass by a Remote Sensing Device (RSD), which uses infrared technology to measure vehicle emissions. The data gathered from the RSDs at these sites is also used only for research purposes.
Meaning, every single S-Chassis car that even thinks about driving by.
Research purposes. . . hah
