i stolen this thread from my.is forum,
and to answer your question
"By the way, the car was lowered onto the installation by crane. They then used four jacks to raise the car, the tea cups were then placed under the wheels and jacks were lowered simultaneously to rest the car onto the tea cups.
Yup.. they are balancing a 3100+ lb car on 4 tea cups "
here is another illustration....

doesn't explain the "balance" part.
to balance something, the point of contract is at its mid point.
That car isn't being balanced, it's just that the tea cups are strong enough to support each corner of the car.
the tea cup used are circular cylinder form. IIRC, that's one of the strongest shap.
When you hold a 2x4 with both hands, end to end. are you balancing it or supporting it? Now if you put your hand under the center of this 2x4, you're balancing the weight at each end.
Basicly those 4 cups are supporting the car. You can do it with stack of pennies too.
here's another example: my car sits on four wheels on the ground. is the ground balancing the car?
That 740iL is being balanced by center blocks.

And made out of thick porcelain instead of being bone china.
Everyone knows a porcelain bowl can withstand ANY sort of punishment.

That is crazy, the cups have to be filled with cement or some kind of reinforcement. That car is hawt....even in that green color.

ah, you're one of those people that like to read picture books. if you read the artical in the link posted; you'll notice that the car was lifted by a crain -onto the table. After that, each end was jacked up to put cups & ply wood under.

i do believe, that it illustrates that the corner weight is so even that the cups will suport it.
In theory if it werent, one cup woudl haev more pressure on it, and would break possibly.
I think thats what it is illustrating

So now theives only need two cynder blocks instead of four.
They just cut their costs in half. With potential to double their profit.

Whats funny is we have those pics in the new Gallardo brochure.
As baller as some may think Lambos are crap, lol. I have first hand experiance, being as working at Lamborghini of Houston.
Yeah they are cool, fast, and blah blah. But If I spend 300K on a car, then why is it the dash starts falling apart on the Gallardos if they sit in the sun for more then 48 hrs, lol.
Sweet to drive those thats for sure, but man for that cash I'd rather have a Ferrari, Morgan Aero 8, RUF Porsche, (could almost get a "base" Koneigsegg CCX), and many other cars that would hang, out run, and look just as good.
