And what are they? Infinity? they sound pretty decent to me w/ the stock deck/amp powering them. Is it worth upgrading? the bigger problem is the fact it shakes my panels. if anyone has an idea on how to stop that let me know.

if they sound good to you, why upgrade? your opinion is the only one that matters.

^what he said. if your panel shakes then find out where it is exactly, get new clips or tighten the screw/bolt. or you could invest in sound deadening.

Well the acoustics in my ford bronco II were horrific.. just 2 spks in the rear and 2 in the front that angled towards the windshield. sounded like pure ass so anything above that sounds angelic. theres a missing screw on my drivers door that I know of but the shaking from my passenger side is agitating me, sounds like the tweeter housing is rattling at certain low frequencies

The factory speakers in my 95 SE were pretty good. My 180's speakers are horrible. I don't really listen to music in a car like this though...

are you sure its the tweeter housing and not the tweeter itself? Honestly, when it comes to something like this, you just have to get dirty about it. Set some time aside and start working on the car. Tear everything apart if you have to, its not that hard or dangerous since its just car audio; as long as you dont start shorting out wires. As for sound quality, sq, you'll always hear the same answer: its personal preference. what may sound good to me may not sound good to you, its analogous to choice of food. I can say that I rarely find stock systems adequate, even high end mercedes and bmws; so to me a stock 240 system would suck big time.

Ive installed all my systems and have pretty pickey taste.. Whenever I point out SQ problems or rattles nobody hears them like I do. For instance I have a stock deck so sometimes I use my G/F's ipod tape adaptor for my mp3 player and it sounds like pure ASS.. you can hear a hiss in the background and its very dull but a lot of people wouldn't even notice or care.

As for pulling stuff apart ive already taken a door off to fix my handle, thats easy enough but what about the tweeters? how hard is it to get to them? Do I need to pull off the Pillars?? the right tweeter appears to rattle at very low frequencies.

And what are some good fairly cheap speakers to replace it all with? they are 5 1/4 front and rear right? what size are the tweets??

sorry for all the questions! thanks

"pickey taste"- All the more for you to research for yourself.

If you've installed so much stuff then get at it and find out. Not trying to be an ass, but will it really make a difference whether i told you was hard or easy? Also, i might diagnose it wrong, and could've wasted your time. Like i said before, just tear at it.

For speakers, i can say that i personally like eclipse for budget prices. Higher line stuff, i would still say eclipse and add on: diamond audio and nakamichi. I really want to try out crystal mobilesound, those are going in next... :D Also, I believe they are 6.5 all around, not sure though.

Your right, I shouldn't have a problem installing it and my best bet is to go to futureshop or bestbuy and actually hear some of these speakers. Ive also heard good things about crystal mobilesound.

Ive seens 6.5 and 6.75 on this forum. who knows what the speaker sizes are on a s14 for certain?

I've got some boston acoustics all around powered off of an 800 watt amp with a kenwood head unit and they sound F'in nice. Except that I just blew them, blah....

My 96 se came with clarion speakers stock i juss upgraded to Alpine Type R's 6.5's front and back and alpine deck, if yours came with the factory amps your gonna have to bypass them.

I saw the factory amps in the truck. So your car fit 6.5'? that must be the size then.. I think im going to go 6.5' components upfront and 6.5' coaxials in the rear then upgrade my deck

Yeah they fit the 6.5's juss a little bit of trimming of the plastic piece that holds the speakers up front then again the alpine type r's are a bit bigger as in depth.

heads up if you didnt know: rear speakers ruin soundstage and imaging. Most sq ppl will agree that you only need front speakers. I myself have been running front speakers exclusively for years now. Everyone that rides in my car:
a) cannot tell that im "missing" rear speakers
b) prefer the front only set up after i turn on the rear and show them the difference

If you're looking for sq, then I suggest taking the money for rear speakers and putting them into the front and amp setup. Let us know what you decide, and post some pics!

OE speakers and amps are Clarion, the cassette decks are as well while the CD decks are Panasonic.

OE speaker size is 6.5" in a 6.75" basket, you can fit either one but the smaller speakers will need a little rigging to secure all four screws.

I've never really had a problem with the OE stuff, sounds fine though you'll notice that you can double the volume with the rears unplugged as they tend to break up faster due to a poor enclosure (the entire trunk).

That's hilarious man, I drove a bronco II for a long time too... and I live in B.C. what the hell are the chances. :blah:

i agree with the comment about rear speakers.
forget them and just concentrate on the front speaker installation in a nice solid pod (the stock one is rubbish) and some sound deadening in the doors including wavebreakers.

i dont know if they're different for u guys but all s14's here as well as s15's came out with stock clarion speakers all round.

Thanks guys, very helpful. I already have a rockford fozgate 4 channel amp + a rockford monoblock along with an MA Audio sub, crossover and capacitor. What im going to do is buy some really nice front speakers and a good deck and unplug the rears and see how it sounds, If I want to add rears later for whatever reason I can.

What exactly is a "good" pod for the front speakers? im impressed it has one at all compared to most cars ive seen.

as for what speakers im getting im not sure, components if the price is right. here are a couple on ebay I like:

^^ you get what you pay for really.

i have some 6.5 Alpine Type S components for sale for $80 plus shipping. very good speakers, cant really tell the difference between the Type Rs and type S when i had mine in.

let me know. stay away from cheap speakers!

are those both cheap speakers? blaupunkt and phoenix gold are reputable companies and checking the stats those are nice numbers.

how much would shipping cost(im in canada), how much did u pay for em and do u have pics? thanks

oh, take your 4 channel and bridge it for more power since components usually have an rms 1.5-2.0x greater than coaxials. Ive never heard of pheonix gold but, try it and let us know! ^im not a fan of alpine, but the type s and type r are lower to middle line stuff.

Good pod to me = make your own baffle from mdf wood and not use the stock plastic ones. Wood gives a warmer sound than plastic is is more of what we are used to for sound. Just think of your home audio stuff.
