you want to let the world know, yeah my reverse lights are red, so what? get bent grandma. what? i dont care if youre 26, better get back to the nursing home its almost 6 oclock, they might run out of applesauce. i gotta get out of here, need to find some 15 year olds to hit on. *30 second burnout in front of the grocery store*.
what you need to get this goings on -
*some red transluscent vinyl http://www.rvinyl.com/cart/store.php?crn=61&rn=1334&action=show_detail
i bought the 2ft x 3ft for 24.99. you will have plenty left over. the reason you gotta buy the big piece is cause the s14 center panel is almost 3 ft long. if you have an s13 maybe you can buy a smaller piece. also when you order from that site it comes with a plastic spatula thing which you will need.
*a hairdryer
*a spraybottle with water
*maybe some hand glaze or rubbing compound?
*maybe some sandpaper?
-maybe you dont need to read this part?-
on my tails, i had tried using the transluscent red spraypaint before, it was uncool, so i sanded it off. i used an orbital sander with 150 grit to take all the paint off. when you are sanding spray the taillight and sandpaper with water periodically. it makes the sandpaper cut faster and makes it last a lot longer so you dont need as many sheets. so then use 320, then 600, then 1000, then 2000, so then your tails are all nice and smooth again. you dont need to sand the shit out of it once you have the old paint off, the plastic is pretty soft, so just wetsand the tails for like 30 seconds with each different grit.
fuck chmercer, now my taillights are all foggy and scratched up from the sandpaper! this shit sucks ass, im gonna go inside and bate.
slow it up skillet, i got you. grab the hand glaze and buff your taillights with it, like if you are waxing them. use some good pressure, in a circular motion. let it dry for a little, 30 secs, then buff it off and your tails will be all shiny.
-done with this part-
ok so assuming your tails are stock with no paint, clean them off and grab your red vinyl. also get the spatula thing and the hairdryer ready. cut out a piece that is slightly bigger than the taillight. peel the entire backing paper off, then spray the vinyl and the taillight down with water, it has to be soaking wet.
then gently place your vinyl on the taillight, it will sortof stick, but the water will make it easy to move around still. start from the middle and push the spatula thing over the vinyl pushing the water and bubbles out. stretch the vinyl around as you go. if you get a wrinkle just pull it back off and try again. if it starts to stick too much spray some more water.
to get the vinyl to sit smoothly over the curved areas of the taillights you will most likley need to use the hairdryer. just get the vinyl nice and warm, its pretty impossible to melt it unless you leave the hairdryer on high in the same spot for like 30 minutes.
once you are done, grab a razor and trim the extra off the edges, done deal. repeat this for the other taillight pieces. the center panel is probably the easiest one even though it is the largest, the corners you have to take your time to get the vinyl to properly curve around the sides.
you can cut out the lock hole and the nissan emblem hole if you want, i just left the vinyl over the holes since i never use the lock and i think the hamburger looks bad.
heres a finished pic, i forgot to take progress pics
