After changing my engine/tranny mounts yesterday, I found out that ive been leaking some kind of fluid for a while. The whole tranny and part of the engine is caked in thick black grease along with dirt, grim and pebbles. I tried to use some of that Foamy Engine Bright, by Gung and it didnt do a damn thing. I let it sit for like 20 minutes, resprayed and sit again and washed off a tiny bit.
Anyone have suggestions on what will work?

+1 on that. I used to work at a car wash when I was younger and that is THE best way. :wavey:

scrape off what you can with a screwdriver or finger, and then use a rag soaked in simple green, degreaser, brake cleaner and just wipe. It all hard work, but in the end the engine back will look very nice.

GoJo and other hand cleaners work well while keeping your hands clean. Hot water and good whatever. Carb cleaner for really harsh stuff. You cant just spray stuff on and expect it to go away, put some muscle into that bitch.
To start with your dealing with a wire brush and some carb cleaner/brake cleaner. Move on to softer stuff once you brake it loose. Wear a mask, goggles, and gloves. Your ass is about to get filth

i used a couple of things. I tried pressure wash but that got only the dirt off. My best weapon was parts wash or brake kleen. Its the stuff we use at dealerships to clean off oil and grime. That shit dries it right off. The bottom end of my engine is pretty my gleaming at this point. After the last time i did the oil pan, the chipped off all the chunks of dirt and crap and went at it and BAM! its clean. You just need to put some elbow grease into it.

The best way to clean it, i use Oil-Eater or also branded Purple Stuff.
Its industrial strength, and i suggest wearing rubber gloves and a face mask or work in a realy vented area. It can burn your skin if you let it sit and dry.

haha... YEah. that purple cleaner is no joke!!!
I was using it with bare hands... First i thought....wow, this stuff makes my hands feel all soft and good.
THEN i realized it was basically eating my skin, and started to burn like a mofo!

1. Preffered method: parts cleaner then chemical bath.
2. Home method: simple green or purple power on a hot day and pressure washer.
I'll be using method #2 this weekend to clean my transmission bellhousing and underside on my car if I can make it home.

Where can I get this said Purple solution. I always hear about people using it and claiming its the best.
Once I get my trans output shaft seal and fix my ps leak all methods will be put to the test.

Dont forget a tough tooth brush.
It made my 17 year old intake manifold look like it was fresh out the factory!
