Ooops, the subject should read...Will 245/45/17 tires fit on a 17x7 rim? The reason why i ask is because I was given a set of race tires that size. I have offset wheels 17x8 in the rear which i know will fit, but 17x7 fronts which i am not sure about.

thanks
danny

not properly, no.

245 should be on a 9inch width to be nearly square...wider rim will be stretched, narrower rim will be oversquare

they'll go on, but its gonna feel like horse piss unless its a hoosier or something (and probably even if it is a hoosier).

They are firestones.

So they are gonna feel like hore piss b/c they are going on a to small of a rim?

Don't do it. It will be okay (not great) on the 17x8.

idea: sell the 245's and sell the 17x7's.

245/45 on 17X9 = slightly stretched sidewalls

245/45 on 17X8 = Squared sidewalls

245/45 on 17X7 = slight concave (minor) sidewalls. I've seen 265s on an 8.5", major concave.

The tire will fit onto the wheel fine but if you're running that up front you'll be rollin at a rally ride height or you'll rub like a mofo...not plastic liner...sheet metal.

Of course any tire not properly matched for the wheel width will ride like ass. Stretched included. Although I'd prefer a slightly streched tire over a concave set up if I had no choice.

However you decide to roll at least you have free tires. If you like the set of wheels you have and decide to track the car I'd save the 245s for the rear and pick up a pair to match the front wheels. It's still cheaper than buying a new set of wheels.

i did fit some 245/45r16 hoosiers on a 16x7 rim... they were VERY concave...

it fits so much better on a 8.5" rim :)

he said they were race tires, and if he doesn't know about rim/tire sizing, then he probably has no use for that sort of hardware.

:duh: okay I may not know about cars as much as you, but I am not stupid. If I had no use for them then why would I want them? I have them for a reason, I autocross my car. For the last two years I have finished first overall in point standings in my region.

let the flaming begin...
