I been relaly starting to fall in love with these cars...This is probably teh car you dont know about. Always where rivals to the e30 m3.. well dam i want one now. I would like a 86-87 16 valve since its probably the most saught after model we got in the US. They look really nice. I think about 170-180hp 4cylinder from the motor devoloped by Cosworth.

good luck finding one in a stick... i searched high and low for one of those in highschool. no luck. one of my favorite cars. but too hard to find anything for them. im prettysure there is a W201 only website somewhere around here.

EDIT:
ive been looking for a poster of this forever. 2 of my favorite cars. im a BMW fan at heart. but you have to give credit where it is due. and yes, not many people are familiar with the W201 chassis.

How are they as far as maintanance and parts availability? A friend's brother has an E30 and while he loves it complains about the extremely high cost of maintanance.

Curious as well. I'm terrified of European cars after a beautiful VW experience. Ar to those things. Whats the deal with older BMW's and Mercedes?

i like the e190 too. old school mercedes is damn reliable. many people describe them as "it just keep going and going....never give up"

I too searched high and low for a 190E 2.3-16 once. They only imported about 1,800 of these Cosworth beauties into the United States so they are very very rare. I saw one on the road once for like 2 seconds. The styling is very classy, interior and exterior. And even more rare, these were among the few Mercedes at the time (and until the C230 coupe) to come in manual transmission. Unfortunately, the ones imported to the US were more like 160-165 hp, as opposed to those (EVOI) in Europe and other parts of the world.

The EVOII never came to the US, but it was 200+ hp, a true E30 M3 competitor. Yes, that giant wing is factory stock and fully functional as tested in windtunnels. But I must admit, I'm not a fan of it.

I eventually came to my senses that finding this old car in excellent condition and in manual near me was pretty impossible, and if it were possible, I wasn't about to shell out ridiculous asking prices. I looked into the successor to the W201, the W202 C-Class, which had a really nice sport edition. But it lost its appeal soon.

I just like Mercedes in general because they are so damn classy. Smooth quite ride, quality interiors, last for a long ass time (the older ones at least). There are two more Benzes I especially like: the gullwing 300SL, but it will probably always remain a dream car; and the W124 500E, a timeless design, the only car ever to be co-engineered by Porsche and Mercedes. Even though it only comes in auto in the US, it's still wicked fast. I hope to own one some day.

Hate it or love it, Mercedes-Benz is the classiest car make period. Success status on wheels.

a few months ago there was a gold one on craigslist, only wanted like 5 for it, 5spd, it was eurospec imported from europe. had pistons etc.. I saw it and didnt really have much interest in them at the time, but now i feel like i missed out.

edit- there is 3 16v on craigslist sf/bay area right now! resonable priced, wish i had the cash tho, a little too far for me since im in socal..

if you dont have money then forget about mercedes, parts are really expensive,so if anyfing breaks you are stuck with a huge bill, plus try finding parts first for an older mercedes. But on the other hand, from what i heard they are supposed to be super reliable,so who knows. You wont find one cheaper than 6g's anyways(good condition i mean)

if i had the money i would get this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EVO-II-Replica_W0QQitemZ110028771327QQihZ001QQcategoryZ63 28QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

^^^stop being buttholes....

i have no racing history, but that doesnt mean i dont enjoy it. that is one of the reasons i like bmw so much. alot of people have no idea how long bmw has been into racing. i would say its like the ferrari of germany in a way. same type of history, yet they build their consumer cars for much different reasons. that, and i just really like 80's european cars. haha.
