View Full Version : How much will a half an inch raise/drop mess up my alignment?

The height on all four corners are all different height (due to eyeballing my coilover). After 4 tries.. i just gave up. Time to try again but my question is.... If i raise or lower a corner how much will that change my toe and camber?
I plan to raise/lower at the most a half inch and at least a quarter inch so the difference in the front and back is a little less than a half inch. Is there some sort of formula?
Thanks in advance.

drop em all the way and you'll know they're the same.
count the turns until they are where you want them.
take it and have it aligned.

take it to a race alignment shop. they can set the height and corner weigh it too. i've heard corner weighing the car make a big difference in the feel and consistency of the car.

corner balancing is the only correct way to adjust coilovers. period.
street setups usually go by measuring fender to hub.
everytime you adjust it you need to get another alignment. lowering turns the tow in, and produces negative camber.
Unless you have some sort of highly calibrated laser inplant in your eye, it's wrong. your tires hate you.
you can tape a string onto your fender, centered on the hub, with a washer tied to the end, use that to measure.
purchase the unlimited alignment plan from merchants/ntb or another reputable garage.
for 89.00 or so, you will get you money back out of it after the second check/adjustment

Why did you "eyeball" the height? Did you at least measure the coilovers before (or even after?) you installed them? Set up your pre-laod by counting the rotations after the spring is seated, them measure the length of coilover body to see that each side is the same....pretty easy to do with a tape-measure.
I change my ride hight once or twice a season and before the winter...it's pretty straight forward. Just measure from the top plate of the coilover to the bottom collar and make sure they are the same heights from side to side of the car. Then double check the ride hight from fender to hub on a flat surface.
btw, to answer your question a half-inch drop (over stock) wont produce significant negative camber. I wouldn't even bother with rucas or toe arms if that's all you plan on dropping the car.

i am pretty meticulous and anal when it comes to things like this. I checked all the measuring before i installed them. The front and rear were even. After I installed them though, they were all uneven. Oh well.
I plan to corner weight and align one day.. but 250 bucks for corner weight and align is too much for me right now.

Ahh, are you just talking about the fender gap being different on all for corners? If all your coilovers were correctly set up then you are probably ok.
I know that if I park my car on even a slightly uneven piece of pavement the fender gap is out to lunch...try and find a perfectly flat place to park and check it again. You are probably just being too picky like me. I like all my shit to be correct down to the millimeter.

i am a little picky but trust me when i say they are all wayyyyyyyyyy off.
from ground to fender... using a ruler with one of those bubble things. FL=24 5/16 FR=24
RL=24 5/16 RR=23 10/16
I really don't know how that happened.
