Hey everyone
I have had my S14 kouki for a while and recently bought a 92 S13 hatch
they car makes a very strange noise from the transmission when the car is ideling in neutral and when i am driving in gear,
the noise isnt just teh regualr noise that most 240s make which i belive is the output shaft...it makes taht noise also but also another similar sound taht is alot louder..
the previous owner said taht his mechanic said it was the transmission bearing..soo im guessing he meant the TO bearing but i think it may also be the driveshaft bearing?
I am gonna drop teh tranny and change some stuff but was just wondeirng if any one esle had a similar expricence and can help me
BTW the car shifts fine and everything
Thanks
Darius

Pilot bushing or input shaft bearing. If it was your TO bearing it would only happen when you had the clutch pedal down....once its released you wont hear the thing. Pilot bushing/bearing will make noise anytime the input shaft is being turned. and errrr....what drive shaft bearing are you talking about? Also since you're dropping your tranny im gonna assume your gonna replace your clutch. Most A/M clutch kits come with a TO bearing and a pilot bushing/bearing. Finger full of grease on the pilot bearing (only if its a bearing, dont think you lube it if its a bushing) and no lube on the TO because its pre-greased.

OO yess i see know what you are talkign about..the pilot bushing/input shaft bearing is the little bushing that you up behind the flywheel, correct?
and about teh drive shaft bearing..sorry i used to work on old BMW trannys and stuff and i am used to center bearings on those ...sorry
but thanks ALOT for teh help
Thanks

if your in neutral with clutch out, the noise should be the input shaft bearing or pilot bushing. I'm currently having the same problem on my car, If its your input shaft bearing. It's time to source a new tranny. It would never hurt to change your tranny oil and see what it might do. And yes darius to your last question.

yea that seems about right
Im just gonna pull my tranny down and checke verythign down there and replace at least the Pilot bearing and the TO bearing and anything else down while im at it...
Is there any way so taht i wcan know if it is the Input shaft bearing or not with the tranny on or off the car? is there any way for me to have it checked without opening it all up...
Is changing the input shaft bearing myslef too hard of a job or can it be done?
Thanks
Darius

Ok guys..well i took out the transmission and all that and the clutch is also out and it seems liek one of the Springs in the clutch could also be making the ratlling noise but i am also changing the pilot bearing and the TO bearing..
Jsuts wondering if you can take the pilot bearing out without taking the flywheel off?
to get the pilot bearing out what can i do?
I ahve heard taht autozone has a tool you can rent or u can grese it up and put in liek a screw or soemthing
well tahnks guys
Darius
