I plan on getting my antenna shaved on my s14 when it's sent out for paint. But has anyone had any experience with the amplified antennas you put under your dash, or mount on your windshield. My local stereo place has one, but the guy has no real experience with it. I would hate to have the antenna shaved and then I can't get a decent antenna to put on my windshild, mirror, under dash. Anyone have any experience with amplified antennas?

This is the one that my local shop has:

Metra sells repackaged Harada antenna products, which are very good quality. I don't see any reason to think that wouldn't do fine, though it is a little cheap (price) for what it is. I'd think a good amped unit would run a little more.

I know my local advance auto/ pep boys has amplified window mount antennas, was just gonna run one of those in my project car, looks exactly like the one you pictured. It's $25, buy it and see how well it works. who listens to the radio much these days anyway ;) Alpine +iPod ftw

What about really short aftermarket antenna's? I can never find those.

I will ask my friend who has a Scion about his amplified one he put in, if I see him tomorrow.

I need the radio to listen to the traffic. The XM traffic channel really sucks.

I have a Metra antenna mounted in the stock location for now. It leaks so I don't like it. I'll have to source another one and mount it somewhere up front on the car.

I don't want a shortie antenna, I hate antennas and want to get rid of it. I will find a way. I might try the metra one and if it doens't work I'll just return it.
