View Full Version : Does the KA ECU retard timing if the car is running badly?

First off, I have a stock S13 KA24DE. I was going up a wicked hill in 115 degree temps and my car was sputtering badly (vapor locked fuel pump), but I was able to drive it 15 miles home.

Ever since it seems that it is really lacking power. I am wondering if the ECU freaked out when it was sputting up the hill and retarded the timing. I don't have the check engine light on.

Some other notes...
I've always ran 93 octane, but I had 90 at the time since I was in California. I doubt this has anything to do with it.
I just did plugs, wires, oil change, fuel filter, and air filter.
