Bring a group of friends. Was that really that difficult to figure out?

u lift it and put it in the bed. 3 guys is good.
... or rent a hoist if you don't have enough friends.

you're going to need a combo of many simple machines. first, you need a wedge to use as a ramp up to the back of the truck. the less the degree of incline, the better. next you're going to need a pulley system. If you have some sort of dolly with wheels, that would help too. Also, bring some help. You're gonna have to put your back into it. OR another alternative that might be easier is to try to find somewhere where you can borrow or rent a small trailer that you could strap the engine to. that way you don't have to do as much lifting or as much lowering when you get home. Something like this: http://www.uhaul.com/guide/index.aspx?equipment=opentrailer-5x9 or http://www.uhaul.com/guide/index.aspx?equipment=opentrailer-5x8
I checked and found out it would be about $10 to rent one of those uhaul open trailers for 6 hours. you can't beat that.

hmm, I could put a jack under the 2 X 4 and then once it's high enough I can push it into the truck. hmm...

Cut the front end and put it in a trailer ftw. Hella. Shiz. Isn't there any hardware store wherein you can just rent a picker?

Have you considered:
a. Renting a hoist?
b. Borrowing a hoist?
c. Buying a hoist?
d. Constructing a hoist?
My hoist cost me $100 at autozone, new. You will need it anyway later. Believe it or not it lifts objects other than engines too.
Yeah, WTF are you guys talking about? Rent a fucking hoist. Jesus, threads like this just piss me off...

Remember, lift with your legs. If its just the engine, two average guys should be able to lift it into the bed of a truck. Set it down on an old tire and strap her down.

I've decided that I'll just try and lift it w/ my buddy and the owner of the engine. I guess 3 guys should be able to do this.

never done this before so that's why I brought this up.

If you are lazy, A dolly + ramp .
Sort of lazy, A dolly, roll to the truck, lift,
Not lazy, Lift all the way to the truck.

Wow, the junkyard delivered my KA and put it in the bed of the truck, I carried the transmission from my friend's basement to the truck myself... When we got it all to the place where work was being done, my brother and I (yes, just 2 people) removed the engine from the truck and held it in place while Chris bloted it up to the engine stand.
Cost of rented equipment: $0.00

I busted a dolly trying to move an engine before. Autozone will let you borrow a hoist.

Personally I would start studying all sorts of mind expansion so you could get levitation powers.

just bring a friend. I loaded up a KA before. just me and this other tiny guy. We also lifted a complete front clip(no engine of course) into the back of a lifted dodge truck. i also did a SR longblock by myself, that was fun

2-3 guys lift and drop into bed. Take a moving blanket along to make moving around the bed easier. The KA doesn't weight that much.
