Hi,
I came to the PC to post this and I saw a few threads down camppain talking about jobs - damn - im not copying off of him, but I really was wondering what kind of jobs are available at dealerships that I could get @ 17? My friend who is 17 was gonna get a job as a lot boy and that sounded cool. Is that basically all that I could do at my age? Does anyone work at a dealership? How should I approach them? Is there anything I missed?
Oh by the way, if anyone remembers me & my 240 vert it is STILL in the shop getting the tranny swapped almost 4 weeks later. My mech told me he'd give me a really good price if I was patient as he's really busy and can only put in time everyonce in awhile. Supposedly next week I'll have it with the 5sp, headers, and cat! Can't wait!
Thanks for the read.

I did that in high school and the first part of college (when I was home for summers and other breaks). It was the coolest job EVER. I worked as a service assistant at a local VW/Audi dealership. I got to "test" all the cars, which after a while of working there, often included long road trips to diagnose customer complaints. I can't tell you how much fun it was. And sooo easy. I say go to as many dealerships as possible and try to get a job there. When do you turn 18? Most of them won't let you start until 18 because of their company's insurance policy. And believe me, the insurance sucks. I was driving a new A4 out of the wash bay and some dumbass put a power pusher behind it when I wasn't looking (already sitting in the car). I couldn't see it in the rear view. Backed into it and put a scratch on the bumper. Lady was PISSED. I had to buy her a whole new bumper cover, as she would NOT accept an airbrush job. F*cker. $500 deductible that I got to pay.
Then, another time, I was testing an old beater Audi 200 Turbo Quattro. I was trying to figure out WHEN the CEL was coming on. All of a sudden, traffic in front of me STOPPED. I did a quick maneuver and squeezed BETWEEN the two rows of cars. I would have totaled the Audi into the back of a Maxima, otherwise. I would have made it through unscathed if I hadn't clipped some dude's rearview mirror at the very end of the row of cars. damn! $360 to fix the power mirror. D'oh!
But other than that, it was a sweet job. Go for it!

You could always get a job at Pepboys or Autozone , ya know an aftermarket store or what not.
Yeah I applied for a job at Toyota Of Knoxville but you have to be 18 I basically got the job but turned it down I decided I dont want to be outside picking up trash my whole day, which is what they said.

Most car related jobs require you to be 18. Once you reach that I would look into being a valet Preferably a valet at a strip club

i'm 19 now... i've had some pretty fun jobs though. when i was 17 i valeted at a high class golf course and for some other places and thats some good easy money right there. plus u get to drive NICE cars if u go to the right places. all last summer i was a lot attendant for a local Infiniti dealer, that job was NICE. at my dealer it was really relaxed and my boss was very layed back and cool, i drove everything from Infiniti Q45s, Mercedes C43s, to BMW M-roadsters... too many to list. everytime we got a nice car in i'd be drooling over it and my boss would come by and throw me the keys like "have fun.." . i got $9/hr for basically driving, washing, prepping a bunch of very nice cars and doing various little jobs around the whole lot. i even had to make like 3 or 4 6-8 hour trips to deliver cars that people ordered, while on the clock thats a great "job" i'll tell u that much. This summer my boss was going to hire me again but it fell through, BUT some of the people from Infiniti went to another exotic car dealer that sells Porsches, Ferraris, basically rare and/or hard to find upscale vehicles. i went there and applied and i'm gonna end up either doing the same job there or at a Mitsubishi dealer run by the same people. i love car jobs :-D

I have 2 friends that washed cars at a chrysler/dodge/jeep/eagle dealership. It was easy work, and they didn't do shit. they got to drive several dodge vipers.

yep! i worked at Muirfield Village golf course, they host the Memorial Tournament every year that brings all the big names (Jack Nicklaus -- designed the course, Tiger Woods, etc... u get the idea). The one and only reason i got the job was because my friend was a manager there, i didn't even fill out an application. that job at infiniti was really lucky though, out of 8 dealers i applied to they were the only one that had an opening, just because someone quit. also if u don't have a clean record its gonna be really hard to get someone to hire u, i'm learning that now but at least i have connections and experience so its not so bad... just keep calling around asking if they need any lot attendants and hopefully u'll find something, good luck!
