so im still working at mt SR swap into my s13

so i have everyhting hooked up right...orso i thought....i have the upper harness done right i am almost 100% on that but the lower harness is pissing me off....so i hook everyhting up where i think it goes and then connect the battery and it starts to crank over....normaly that would be good....except im not turning the key...and when i revers the wires i think might be grounds or something nothing happens

is the alernator strong enough to turn the engine over using just the belt? because if im shorting it its at the alternator im almost positive

Where do you have the meg battery cable connected to? It should go to the block not the starter.

Take some pictures of yours and maybe we can help tell you what of yours you need to put where...

The alternator would not be able to turn the engine over.

ok so all it is...
i cant figure out how to wire the lower harness
there are a couple of wires that have just an eyelet on the end and i dont know if i ground them oir where they go....im quite confused

08-26-2006, 08:51 AM
one ground w/ eyelet goes to alt.

other goes to starter along with + cable.

everything else with eylets are grounds.

punxva
08-26-2006, 09:34 AM
yea, the bigger eyelet is for the starter, and it should be right by a plug that goes to the starter.

so the big black one (2-4 gague wire) is grounded to the intake manifold?

I......Starter cable
II.....speed sensor
III....Big ass ground maybe??
IV....to alternator
V.....oil pressure
VI....negativething
VII...alternator gadget
VIII..negative thingy

#3 is for the starter
#6 is the alternator ground all you do is have a little screw to hold it down to the alt.
#8 is the chasis ground
Please correct if i'm wrong because I'm also working on my wiring.

what does it mean if my car turns on when i plug the battery in and keeps cranking over untill i disconnect it (key is not in the ignition)

if this is the case, you are completing the cuircuit between the two starter posts on teh starter.

the starter harness should reach to the left, the alt should go to the right, with a couple odd's and ends for oil press and p/s rack press in the middle.

What is weird is that everything here is like, one size hole, for the stud it goes to, are you sure nothing is touching or too big/small for what you are tightening it onto.

Like i said, pay attention to the two starter cables.

1= Starter (1 pin right?)
2= Speed Sensor (2 pin)
3- Starter, and this should be COVERED!
4= ALT 12v
5= Oil pressure
6= Alt ground
7= ALT control (on side of alt case)
8= Ground to intake manifold

If it is hoooked up like this, you should be fine. If it is doing this.

Chekc your IGN KEy settup, buy a new lower harness.

okay.

In an SR Swap, this doesent need to come apart.

And that is a pretty poor picture, take a couple, and dont just use the flash, pull some flood lights out and light it up please.

the picture really doesnt matter its just the engine to chasse harness and there is a thin and thick blue/red stripe wire and i know one(maybe both) go to the black with red stripe thats all ium asking

i really dont want to be an ahole, but without having a good look at it, im not going to make a suggestion, because i dont want to be held responsible.

Follow.

http://www.heavythrottle.com/ --> SrInstall Faq.

I mean, i didnt even know we had moved onto that, i thought you had tore apart the lower harness to the Fuse Block!! :duh:

fico

i did and thats why i have a question.....it says to connect the black with red stripe with blue with red stripe but there are 2 blue with red stripes...

johngriff
08-28-2006, 10:23 PM
Well...

Connect it per the Heavythrottle faq. Just leave the "thin" blue with red alone.

the sr harness to the chasiss does not control the starter motor. Your issue is somwhere between the switch in the ignition key, the ign relay, and the lower power harness that the stater connects to. If you are not "crossing" the starter wires or grounding them out, then the fault is more than likely in your lower harness.

"WHAT HAVE I MODIFIED THERE?" Is the best question to ask yourself right now. Turbo Timer install? Clean up the wires, move them around alot? These things can all be part and parcel to your issue. Based on your value of money/time, i would find a new-er lower harness to replace this one with. They are usually relatively inexpensive and is more than likely the cause of your problems.

i have done nothing to the lower harness at all except re-taped it...but where would i find a new harness along with should i get it off an sr or ka?

Youve basically got your starter wired up as you would a remote starter, except instead of a switch you have your negative cable on your battery. Your starter will have one power source to draw in the solenoid and the second to energize the coil. You went haywire somewhere in there.

SR and KA are pretty much the same, i would recomend just another ka harness, maybe even consider dealer. Remember things (esp wiring), is starting to get old and tattered on these cars, and it seem that whenever you move around the older harness, somthing goes bad.

yeah its pissing me off but it gave me a chance to go and finish up a bunch of other things around the car so now i have nothing left but the damn wire's so yeah back to stage one....the battery is mounted in the car and grounded to the frame... and i ran the wire that would go to the battery to the frame then to the intake plentum and it keeps turning over unless i unconnect the wire to the plentum

anyone have any other ideaS?

I too am having this same prob. If I figure it out I'll post the solution. one thing to check is that you have the cover over the + wire on the starter and that the thin wire on the starter is is not grounderd to the starter.
