I recently went to change my headgasket.

and then I see that there is a problem with my head in one of the journal bearings.

it looks like a little oil starvation, killing the head and cam to the point where I just said, "ok Ill get another head and another set of cams"

so I did.

I had it sent to the shop where a good friend of mine works. plenty of sr20det experience.

he intalled the new gasket, the new headstuds, the new head, made everything perfect. he even gave me a new timing chain, timing chain guide, and oil pump.

I spend about 12 hours a day for 3 days putting everything back together. new clutch, new flywheel, putting manifolds back on, redoing oil pan gasket, putting the motor in by myself, (spending like an hour getting the new pilot bushing in lol and another hour trying to get the tranny crossmember on lol geez I hate those). its 100 degrees.

prime the oil pump just as if I just got the swap (unplug cas and attempt to start... you know what Im talking about)

start the car... it runs like ass. whyyyyyy? so I check the timing and it says that the lowest I can go is 25* so I call my friend who worked on it and asked for a tool to turn the crank. he says "I put the motor together, just drop the car off at the shop and Ill do it"

so I wake up to him calling to tell me this morning "whatever the problem you had with the oil is in the block... because Im sitting here looking at your motor and there is metal shavings everywhere and your cam BROKE"

all that time. all that money. all the emotional stress that I thought would pay off in the end. the motor is gone. yeah. I cried. yeah... kickboxing is going to have a little more emotional aspect tonight. no, I cant make it out of town to my girlfriends birthday.

I dont even know what to do.

.......thats pretty bad. you can however, get a KA for about 50 bucks and run that until you get enough money to get another sr.

anytime id be pulling and swappng heads id drop it off to be cleaned and all that godo shit. clean out everything.

should do a 3angle valve job anyways while its out.

That sucks... big time.

Did he have any idea what could have caused the blockage? Something dirty?

yeah oil pump was changed.

I had the head resurfaced by a local nissan engine specialist.

Im not going to swap in another sr. 240s make me so mad now lol. its hard to even look at it. Im getting a miata... lol

Ill probably swap in a ka just to sell it when I have time. all my stuff is for sale in the f/s forum tho if anyone needs anything.

You're gonna swap in a KA.. and then you're gonna turbo charge it.. and then you're gonna love 240s all over again.

WE HAVE YOU! All your base are belong to us!

wonder what "nissan engine specialist" this was...hmmm

If he overtightened the cam caps and somehow the bolts resisted breaking that could have causet this, oil starvation should not cause a cam to snap in a motor withou vtc...It can be a contributing factor however. It sounds like Human Error...if i read everything right the first time.

you never said anything about the cam breaking until now. sounds like the cam caps you got from the guy that you bought the head from could be the wrong ones. meaning there was no reason for you to have them shipped here when someone else was going to give you a set. just sounds like it siezed(sp?) and snaped.

this is why I like to do things myself... because it it does break, its my fault and mine alone.

You can still salvage a lot of that stuff man, good luck
