Ok, just got my car painted, I want to put something around the exhaust ON the bumper to keep it from burning the paint and leaving smoot...Now, I have seen them on wrx's and sti's, but I'm hoping to find one for my 240sx somehow...well, I can't even find one for the subaru's nor can I remember what they're called...any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

Exhaust shield. Custom means it will absolutely conform to the shape of whatever bumper you have, and around whatever exhaust you have. Hit up the local machine shop and explain what you're looking for. Or track down a universal one and worry about fitment issues.

Is there really such a thing? Because I'm looking for one too....well before I hack up some aluminum sheeting.

Ive seen univarsal ones that are made out of carbonfiber and that is just stupid. I guess you would have to go custom.

5zigen ships one with every exhaust. I still have one laying around cause I wax my bumper and detail it.

Just get some 1mm aluminum film.

Well, it seems like it would be hard to make...I have the jdm kouki bumper, so it has all those ridges....

Yeah, just go to Home Depot or Lowe's and look for thin aluminum sheeting (used to cover roofs and drainage canals). It's very pliable (almost like a thick foil) and would work well for your intentions.

you could get the aluminum duct tape, same shit

or some dei heat wrap stuff, fiberglass with aluminum foil

just cut out a square and stick it on

it would look ugly though

best option would just be to extend the exhaust tip

Had to bump this thread just to add more info.

I bought some duct work and small self-tapping screws from Home Depot ($4 total) and ghetto fabbed a shield. Function over form as its not very pretty upclose.

You cut off your nose to spite your face!

You didnt want to burn the bumper, so you drilled holes in it? I dont get it!

How else can I keep the aluminum in place? Tacks or rivets create holes as well and I'm definately not using JB Weld.

My main reason for doing this was not to keep it from burning, but to cover up the cut out the previous owner made...

I bought the bumper used like this because brand new they were on B/O at the time I had money on hand and need a bumper ASAP.

etc

hell you can get aluminum duct tape at home depot

that screwed on plate is just ghetto

at least do it half way right, lol

besides how is a piece of metal like that gonna do anything, itll absorb the heat yeah but its just sitting on the bumper so the heat transfer is right there

From looks of how you installed the shield, your bumpers still gonna melt.

Its just covering the tip from touching the bumoer, but the top part of your bumper still sticks out right above the exit of the tip. So the bottom part may live, but the top would melt. Get the tape, works wonders.
