Auto Trans Installed, problems Need Help

Well my friends auto trans went bad, so I replaced it for him with a new one. As far as I know I installed everything correctly, but it doesn't engage into any gear, it acts like its always in neutral. What are some things I should check? I locked the torque converter, everything was bolted in, shift linkage is atached. Anyone have some advice? :ughug:

Try throwing it in drive and hit the gas. Itll made a loud bang and start to work.

Did you refill the transmission fluid to the proper level?

Something I didn't realize when working on my auto trans... you are suppose to check tranny fluid while the car is running... you should be able to do it in park, but instructions for some cars say run it through all the gears for a few seconds each, then leave it in either N or D w/ handbrake up (better if there was someone in the car holding on the brake... don't wanna get run over now).

werd, check the fluid level. also check the shift linkage adjustment.

Make sure that it goes into every gear. I don't mean at the shifter. When you use the shifter you should hear/feel or otherwise notice something change. Make sure you have every gear.

Was the transmission working when you got it?
