I'm new to the whole nissan thing and have a question about the vlsd rear end. I know I'm going to get the search search search responce but I've searched 240sx forums, club240.com and this site and have found no answers.

My question is about a vlsd I recently purchased and just installed. Is it normal for the car to chirp the rear tire when driving in parking lots or slow turns, even when the fluid is cold? Also is it normal for the car to want to drive straight rather than turn when powering through a corner with some speed?

I've owned many bmw's with a lsd rear end and none of them has ever acted this way. I also noticed that someone resealed the rear cover with orange sealant so maybe the stock vlsd could have been replaced with something different?

Thank you in advance for any help with my questions

Sounds like you bought a welded diff.

Thats kind of what I was thinking but does a open diff fit into a vlsd case with 5 bolt output cups? I didn't think you were able to weld up a vlsd but only a open diff.

It also doesn't seem to be locked up when coasting but only under power. I was thinking a welded diff would want to go straight even when not under power.

If it's coasting around corners OK but it pushes under power you may have a 1-way clutch type LSD and it may not be setup properly. Most clutch type LSD's can be adjusted to vary the break away torque. The Viscous LSD provides the same amount of resistance during both acceleration and deceleration.

Can't say for sure what's in the pumkin but it doesn't sound like your typical VLSD.
