Is the Nismo 1.5 way lsd a clutch type and does it hold as strong as kaaz or tomei? I saw this lsd on mynismo.com for $689.

It does not appear to be a clutch type lsd. It says mechanical on the box in the pic.
That lsd is the 'street' version. I have never ridden on that lsd but some people say its not nearly as good as a kaaz or cusco.

Im going with a cusco rs sometime in the near future.

If its mechanical its a clutch type. If it was Helical it would say so, plus they would not be selling a Helical that cheap new. The Nismo they are selling is not bad. In fact its a great clutch type for the person who is just getting into drifting. Its better than a VLSD and no not quite as crazy hardcore as the KAAZ or a Cusco or Tomei Technical trax. It is also a lot quiter than the other ones. Trust me if noise bothers you then the KAAZ, Tomei,Cusco are going to alarm you. As they sound like your rear end is falling out around corners till you hook up. Its up to you. I would say if this is your first LSD the Nismo would be a good way to go.
The other cheaper way is weld lock but that is fully locked.

^^^ What he said. I have a nismo 1.5 and yes, it is a clutch type and yes its nice, but not as aggressive as a tomei ok kaaz equipped car. It makes some noise at lower speeds like in parking lots but otherwise the thing is pretty silent. the difference over the VLSD is big! At the low cost for the nismo, you cant lost and its a quality part! I have no regrets in having mine!

My freind sprung for the ATS CF 2-way and now I have used the nismo GT 2-way for about two years and can honestly say the CF is more durable but not worth the price difference. REAL Nismo parts are top notch quality and I would buy the same diff over again in a heartbeat.
