Bad fuel efficiency on DOHC..why?

Hey

I've been noticing that my KA24DE has been eating alot of fuel. Also I've had a few friends that were driving behind me tell me I smell like Im burning rich(I have also been smelling this myself). I just need to know what things to look for to correct this. I had the timing set last week, thought that would do it but still going threw fuel like nothing. Also I backfire alot, when I get it up to 3000rpm let of the gas for a second then touch it I back fire. If you have any input LMK because burning alot of gas up at these prices hurt the pocket.

It could be a lot of things. Check the 02 sensor. Check the FPR. Check the injectors. Check the spark plugs/wires. You might not be running on all 4 cyl. It would sound messed up then too. Good luck with it.
