Hey, well ive got the rust under my spoiler and i took it off today to assess the damage. Ive got a whole in the actual trunk which i knew, and all the metal brackets that held the plastic clips are rusted out also. I like the look of the stock spoiler, id have to figure out how id mount it though without those brackets. Just lookin for what u guys did with the same problem, or if id be able to pick up new brackets and clips from someone so i could reattach it once i fix everything

I'm in the process of buying a used hatch at a local junkyard...
To fix the problem, I had to install a 180SX Type-X wing. I previously fixed the rust under the spoiler 3 times... It's really not worth it to keep it.

Here is the problem with the stock poiler. It is foam. The guy at the junkyard says it holds water when it gets old and slowly causes rust. Apparently, old Maximas get it too.
Throw it away.
I am going to have a body shop fix mine then install a stock looking fiberglass spoiler.
I could get a clean hatch at a junkyard, but I can't find a white one in good condition witht he wiper but no spoiler. Besides, the paint may still be off
It's going to be expensive either way.

Okay, how much is it costin u to repair the rear hatch?, and how much u payin for that spoiler they are throwin on, i want the stock look also. I like the hatch i have, besides the rust, and the paint i think would be very hard to match.
any info will be helpful when i go to decide

Here's what i did:
1) remove the stock spoler
2) take car to body shop - they fixed and painted the hatch
3) waiting for new spoiler to put on.

if you take it to a decent shop, ask them to fill weld the bolt holes w/ maybe a steel plate backer. Otherwise they might just try to fiberglass the hole.
It's probably ok to just fiberglass but I didn't take any chances...now to shave off the antenna and hatch light...

Mr. Dirty, or the others that have repaired their hatch, can u give any numbers for the cost that u were charged when these shops did the repairs?
Sorry... my shop is in Canada...
However, my bodyshop welded pieces of metal to fill the holes left by the OEM Spoiler.

Only the fastback, the coupes have a solid spoiler, dunno what it's made of but it isn't foam
Luckily, you need rain to get rust, so I don't tend to have the problem. However, the paint on top of my spoiler has begun to crackle. I'm thinking I'll just shave the bastard and replace it with a shortish 2" or 3" high spoiler. . . I'd leave it bare but I don't really like the naked look of the spoilerless fastbacks

I haven't fixed mine, but when i get $100 bucks saved up i will be getting a grey hatch w/ the window busted out! Then i will have someone at work install my old window into the new hatch! Also the new hatch will come w/ a 180sx style wing on it. I don't think a body hop will be able to fix the amount of rust ii have on my hatch b/c I live in Florida...The Rainy State!
for all who live in orlando...How about this rain situation? This is what like 22 days straight of rain? Fucking rediculous!
