You need to take off like 10 bolts or something on the side piece. you dont actually take out the gears, but you weld them while they are inside the diff. This is what we did to mine yesterday.

ok so i have to remove the 10 bolts? cool thnx all i needed to know.. i wanna take out the grear assembly because it would be easyer to just take that out and weld on both sides freely, then try to work in the actual housing.. make its easyer to menuver around

wrong. do it in the assembly b/c it is easier then having to get it all back in. i welded one of my diffs. here are pics of before and after:

you weld both sides of the spiders like i have done or you can put more weld on it to streghten it up more. eventually though enough is enough on the welding.

i've heard sticking a few bolts in and actually welding those to the gears is the right way to do it? is there any complete tutorials out there? cuz im sure many many many people are asking the same questions.

I found this with google.

it probably will but i really don't care. it has been sitting in my shed for about 3 or 4 months at least. i just welded the gears slightly to have the effect and if i bust any part of the case or carrier then i have several others here.

you can put the bolt in there and weld it that way or you can weld several layers in between each gear. i use the several layers of welding b/c it is easier. several layers done properly should most likely be 6 to 10.

how would you suggest to make that diff stronger.

well... i'd use a torch to really heat up the metal... then weld it. you gotta get good penetration if you're gonna run it on the street.

no sense in risking it breaking on the street and you loosing control and killing yourself.

I've had a bunch of diffs done for people here in socal. Before I give it to my dad to weld, I always take it out and take the ring gear off that way he can get his arc welder in there and weld it up better. Do it right the first time that way you don't have to do it again if it breaks. He's injured right now due to a bad accident in the backyard so please don't PM me about welding your diff at the moment.

Ok I am a welder by trade, and I am going to have Luke weld mine. Why you ask? Because he charges almost nothing to do it, and he has done a ton of testing to see the best way to do this. Weld lock is no joke.
