I don't know about your idle problem but I can tell you the s14 won cauz its 5spd...and it should win every time. Intake doesn't do much...it certianly won't make you beat a car you previously couldn't.

i realize the intake wont make alot of difference but i figured the weight difference and the "hotter" cams of the 91' would at least level the playing field a little!

The 5sp gives him the better advantage. The cams are better, but not by a whole lot. For instance, I stand no chance against an 01' celica gts 6spd. But my buddy with an 01' gts with blitz intake and tunabe medallion exhaust won't race me due to the fact he knows he will lose. Reason being is his gts is automatic.
For the idle problem, try disconnecting the battery for 15 or 30 minutes, then restart the car. Don't know if it will fix the problem, but it can't hurt. Will reset the ecu, and might cure your problem. That's the only thing I can think of.

ive already tried resetting the ecu and that didnt help either. i think it is the egr valve itself or the selonoid that runs it. but i cant find the thread about bypassing the egr so i can eliminate that before i go by a new one from nissan

Slush boxes suck for the s13. I have raced a '91 240sx w/ intake and exhaust and beat him w/ a bone stock '91. All tranny. While his car was figuring out when and if to shift I was already gone. The five speed makes a big difference

two reasons he beat you
1. he has a s14 5 spd compared to your s13 auto
2. intake is not turbo................ does not allow you to beat a newer engine with a manual transmission
imho

i already replaced my o2 sensor, thanks. ok, ok i get it ijust didnt think there was THAT much difference in the 5 speed tranny over my slushbox. but thats ok cause im shipping it to level 10 so i wont get beat by any 5 speeds again!!! they "claim" with their upgrade to my auto my tranny will shift good enough to beat 5 speeds. i know someone is gonna ask why i just dont swap to a manual so ill go ahead and answer. i want my 240 to be a street/track killer w/ an auto, simple as that!!! i want to be different and difficult!

oh I heard about something like what you are going to do supposedly what they will do is take away the smoothness of the auto therefore allowing it to shift like a manual. It will get rid of the delay in between gears and shift perfectly and quickly. Basically giving you a automatic manual transmission. Let us know how it goes

How much is that going to run you

It could be the IAA valve. Shoot some carb cleaner down this hose:

but 5spd is soo much fun! I dont mean to flame but or get you angry but honestly can you drive a 5spd? Or is the reason you want an auto cause you dont know how to drive a 5spd?

actually yes i can drive a 5 speed. my old 240 was a five speed, and my rx7, and my prelude, etc., etc. i just would like to explore the realm of a true performance automatic. it is expensive, about $4000(new torque converter and total internal rebuild) but one guy with an infinity q45 is running low 12's with a level 10 auto matic and that car weighs 4500 lbs! no forced induction at all and he credits a 2.5 second reduction in his 1/4 mile time to just the tranny!!
91s13coupe, don't you feel that driving an auto takes away from the "driving experiance"? Whenever I've driven auto, I've felt so disconnected from the car I just couldn't have any fun. I also have a hard time believeing that an auto can out perform a 5spd in auto-x or at a road course...drag however, I'm sure it'll be damn quick.

dsc, in stock form yes it does take away from the total expierence but i have driven alot of perormance cars and some had automatics and i have found that the transmission is only part of the whole. our chassis is one of the best handling vehicles in stock form i have ever driven, and with very few upgrades can be in the ranks with many $100,000 + "true" sports cars and with the right setup(horsepower, torque, tranny, etc.) i feel the 240 platform whether its s13,s14etc, is the perfect car for the driver. im ranting but i think with the level 10 upgrade it will actually enhance the expierience because you can concentrate on driving the car, letting the awesome chassis and hp/torque (turbo) do the work for you! this is all my opinion of course but i just want to take a route that everyone else somewhat avoids because they arent willing to explore the possibility of having a serious performance car with an automatic! i hope it works and i will keep everyone posted on the progress.
