the car is going in tomorrow for a tranny rebuild. Grant being the smart guy he is mentioned this would be a good time for a clutch and flywheel replacement. who's got experience with aftermarket clutches? ACT? Clutchmasters? is there a reason to get an upgraded one if i'm not going to be pushing much more than stock power?
what about flywheels? lightweight flywheels are sweet, who's got em? what do you have to say about them? can you safely lighten the stock flywheel?
thanks in advance

Ok, I took a 93 hardbody truck flywheel 240mm clutch surface area vs stock 225mm. brought it down to just over 16lbs . I am running a heavy duty Daiken truck clutch right now and am going to put in a LUK goldline clutch which has 1,400 lbs of clamping force and 500lbs of holding torque. It costs $180 and its stronger than a ACT stage II
my engine revs up great with it and I have not lost torque a common problem with light weigth aluminum flywheels.

Sorry, but this a bit off toipc. My tranny is shot.
How much are you paying for the rebuild with parts a labor, if you don't mind me asking?
I am debating rebuild vs. 30,000 mile junkyard tranny.
Thanks,
Jeff

i am using a JUN flywheel
little pricey but what a difference. revs so much faster and easier. as for a clutch, go for a clutchmasters stage 2. if u are not pushing alot more hp than stock i would go with this.

i have the jun flywheel and there is a difference from 2000-5000rpm in the first 3 gears. since you auto-x, i'd get it. i also have a centerforce dual friction clutch, which i hear is not a true dual friction clutch. it's nice, but i'm positive ACT is nicer.

for me the big difference is in the last 3 gears. my 5th accelerates as much as 4th did at highway speeds. I love it. now I never have to downshift to pass if I don't want to...but usually I go to 3rd anyways...

and I'm using the centerforce clutch....it's okay...I haven't used ACT so I can't relate...I'll try that next. the only thing I don't like about the centerforce is the pedal spring...way too soft. I swear it was stiffer with the old wornout stock clutch. now I HAVE to go by distance...I cannot feel where the clutch engages/disengages.

I have a centerforce 2. It has a very soft peddle. The stock clutch was much stiffer.

i don't like pedals that feel like marshmallows

Yeah, and just think about it on a hot day. It'd get all stuck to your feet and everything. Grose.

Why is your tranny being rebuilt? What went wrong with it?

exactly, but that's really the only issue I have with it...it definately grabs.

like I said, I'd try the ACT.

I personally Prefer the SPEC clutch with a Fidanza Flywheel. Very nice setup and a little less than an ACT.
