Just wondering what some of you plan on doing after school.

I was thinking about going to school to get my ASE cert. but im not so sure anymore. Seems like there are a lot of draw-backs including not enough money especially here in AZ.

I wanted to be a mechanic after I graduated, but I thought to myself that I wouldn't want to be working on other people's cars the rest of my life, so there went that idea.

I actually have a double major right now- Administration of Justice and Psychology

I'm trying to figure out what to study myself. After going to vocational training for cosmetology(no,I'm not gay.),I had to get knee surgery and now I can't really handle doing that everyday anymore...So basically I am stuck in a rut that theres nothing that I know of,that I really want to do that I can physically do :(

Im thinking of taking this hydrology course at a local community college. Says its the only one offered in the state and the money looks pretty good too. You basically monitor water levels around the area.
Anybody know anything else about hydrology?

It looks like I'll probably just start off doing the automotive thing. If it sticks Id wanna get into working at a high end dealership, performace shop or maybe even start my own shop.

I may be getting a part time job at a hospital my mom works at down the street from me just to get by. Credit card is just about maxed out:( Maybe something there will spark my interest

I rec that all of you go to school to make money. Dont do anything with cars. If your a mechanic you will work to the bone on cars everyday, and never have energy to work on your car.

Just make a buttload of moola then take care of your family. After that you can cheaply build the best drift car ever, and never worrie if you can afford top ramen.

I dunno... I think id be nice to have some training in automotive just because there are always jobs available. My dad is an engineer making 100k+ right now but about two years ago he was laid off and could not find work anywhere for about 7 months. Of course he collected unemployment but there are situations where you wont be able to collect unemployment and will be stuck with no income at all like me right now:(

Im kinda thinking about doing the automotive thing then maybe real estate or car insurance............ too many damn things to choose from and not knowing what would be best SUCKS

I disagree Luke, yeah, somedays the cars will kick your ass, but if you're a good tech and you work for a decent dealership you won't be hurting for money and you won't be "working to the bone"

Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (FSAE) is a competition in which students are to design, analyze, and manufacture a formula style open wheel race car. Aside from engineering, teams also have to take into consideration the cost of making the car and presenting the cost of the car. Budget is limited at around 25K. Industy professionals from GM, Nissan, Toyota etc....judge the competition. Even Formula 1 engineers go to these events to judge and critique teams designs. This is especially true in the UK Competition. Ater teams are judged, they then compete against each other in 4 events....acceleration, skid pad, auto-x and endurance. Teams from Europe, Asia, Australia, North and South America compete in different locations around the world. There are 2 comps in North America, one in Michigan and one here in California. Other locations include Brazil, Japan, Australia, England, and the newest addition in Germany. It is VERY time intensive...but in the end it pays off BIG TIME. To get an idea of what the cars look like......type in FSAE in google and look at the images.

I'm going to school for the money. That piece of paper shows that I stuck it out for four years doing a lot of bullshit homework that won't be applicable to my job and didn't even get paid for the effort. Is an education important? Sure, but experience and true knowledge is more important by a factor of n.

I'd also like to get laid more often.

Yeah looking back on it, I should have done FSAE but there so much work getting my BSME.

I'm out of school now and want to get into automotive engineering. I'm probably going to start planning to go to SAE regional events to see what is going on and to meet some people.

I'm not sure how much longer I have in school, but my B.A. degree will be Technology Management with an associate's degree in Computer Networking Technology.

I really don't want to enter the network part of things, but the technical side of computers (Computer Technician). Right now I do a co-op that is every-other semester. It's desktop support where people put in tickets and we go to their deskt and troubleshoot/install software and hardware. It's a catch-22 because this co-op is slowing me down in school because it's full-time so I can only take 2 classes while working. But at the same time, its good experiece and pay because it's in my field.

Lets see, originally it was Mechanical Engineering, but I couldn't handle the math. Then it was communication, until I met SEVERAL people with that major making like 10 bucks an hour, and now finally its economics. Needless to say, I've been a Junior for a long long loooooooong time.

I sort of went to UCSB when my major was com. It was too damned expensive though and I didn't want to have a job making like 15000 a year when I owe well over 20k in loans. But Isla Vista is sooo tempting though, just for the experience. Anybody wanna go up there for Halloween? We'll all dress like chip n dales!!!! Woot!
