So i just replaced my blacktop with a redtop,

the motor has 155 compression across the board, and my guess is it has been sitting for a good 10 years..

so i primed it, fired it up, fired on the 3rd crank, however there is a terrible sound comming from the head like

TICK TICK TICK TICK and it does not go away with rpm, when the engine is reved up the ticks just happen quicker but the sound does not get higher pitched..

i let the motor run for about 30 seconds to see if oiling would make it go away but it didnt seem to help much.

however on the plus side the motor seems to run well and idles smooth.

im thinking its most likly lifters that need to be bleed since they probobally ran out of oil from sitting so long?

or do you think the oil pump is dead and not supplying the head with oil?

any imput guys any help is greatly appreichated!

Should have swapped in a real motor like a KA or a VG...

As long as it can drive you to the shows your good to go.

On a serious note, try running straight ATF through it to clean out those rockers.

you sure it's not the ticking sound from the injectors?
if there was in your lifters, that ticking sound would get much louder on rpm.

Yea it sounds like the lifters, like ''dts'' said if you run some atf it may help prime them. Look in the oil cap, that will tell you if oil is getting on top of the head, but that will not tell you if you have good pressure, a gage will, sorry on that one.

Could be a spun bearing.

my sr makes the same sound. while im in idle and giving it gas at idle it makes the noise. but once you start moving it goes away. has nothing to do with my clutch either, but i got it checked out and was told its the cams knocking because the oil is retarded at idle.

My Sr also does it, wasnt there for the first week or so but sounds like a ka now on start up.

Could be timing chain rattle. If so, remove the upper chain guide, then you should be good.

Start off my checking if its the injectors...put a screw driver against each injector and "listen" at the other end of it. If thats not it, time to lift the cover and see if anything is wrong in the head, make sure all the rocker arms are in place and all the lil retainers are on between the valves and the rocker arms.

check your oil, if its not at the top of the checkered mark, and i mean the very top of the checkered mark, if it isnt then fill it all the way up and that should be it.
