SOHC --> SR20 wiring question (pics included)

I'm finally getting around to getting the wiring done on the 240. It's been a few months since I've last worked on the car so I'm trying to remember all this shit.

I'm using the frsport.com's wiring guide. My question is on their install guide they show that you cut the SR harness and replace it with the KA section. Easy enough..

My SR harness has 3 plugs like it shows in the photo from the guide..

My KA harness only has 2 or the 3 plugs. Just ignore the orange/grey plug?

yes you ignore that last 3rd plug. cut and solder on the KA ends. or just repin the sr side. it's all up to you. I also removed all the extra crap that's on the harness. they're used for inspection/services.

i just did my swap this weekend and i havent started on the wiring yet but i have been reading about it and i was wonderign what kind of wire to use to extend it?

The most helpful thing you can do is follow #1 in my sig. Follow the wiring diagram in the KA FSM and figure out where it's supposed to go. It will help you figure out which wires need to line up with the SR.

There is an SR ECU pinout floating around on the 'net. Search for it. Then you can put the two together using the instructions that HT provides you.

i know wich ones to extend and i found the pin out but what i was asking ( i was in a rush before and didnt articulate myself correctly) is what grade/type of wire do i use when extrending the wires? and should i be able to find it at radio shack?

I understand your question now. You don't really need to add any wire length. Just snip and reconnect them to each other. There are several ways of doing it. The best way is to simply pop them off the connector using a tool (or a safety pin) and reposition them back in to the connector at the correct orientation. No splicing necessary.

The two plugs snap together. If you can get the pins to line up you're good to go.

If you want though, you can lengthen them as necessary.

When extending wires, use at least the same gauge wire size, i.e. same at least the same thickness or thicker wire.

You can always clip a small section off and bring it to Radio Shack with you. Tell them it's for 12V automotive application. They should be able to help you find the appropriate gauge and type.

14-16 gauge is what most of the wires use.
