View Full Version : Please critique my clutch hydro setup

This is an S13 with an S13 SR. It currently has a unknown clutch setup since I have not opened up to peak inside. I want to get my hydraulics parts together before opening it. Right now this is what I'm about to get:

* OEM Nissan master cylinder. The auto parts store's "OEM-replacement" M/C I got for my last car didn't hold up too long before it started leaking again.
* Taka Motorsports braided line that goes straight from M/C to S/C and replaces the hardline. Bypass all that damper drama.
* Nismo slave/operating cylinder. Others have said Z31, but I need the best since I'm going with a track-only clutch setup later on.

Constructive comments are welcome and appreciated.

IIRC NISMO=Z31 as far as specs. Make sure everyting is Nissan OEM. Replacement ones always seem to fail. Other than that looks good.

I saw some discussions about the Z31 = Nismo, but so far no one has been able to confirm the specs on the Nismo unit.

I'm getting the M/C and S/C from Performance Nissan. I hope they get me Nissan OEM stuff :)

G6,

The line length you will need will be 5.5 feet long with standard nissan caliper fittings on the end. On my car I used 90s for hose ends and the hose was 5.5feet long. There was some "minor" discussion on FA re: length being too long. So with that in mind I will be shorting the line up a bit to 5 1/4 feet long. I guess people prefer to have no slack than some slack. Anyways...thats the info for the DIY's out there. good luck. Btw, do NOT buy the cheap SC from pep boys...those things are cheap...really cheap....

I would think slack would be good for when the engine jerks it doesn't stretch the line.

Set-up seems good to me. Unless you want to add one of those flex-brace things that tries to reduce the firewall flex when you stomp the pedals.

What is the flex-brace you're talking about?

FYI, I have Nismo motor mounts, Peak gearbox mount, and PDM engine torque damper.

I forgot where I saw it.. but it bolts behind the MC and I think to the strut tower??

I'll see if I can find it.

like this.. https://www.034motorsport.com/product_info.php?cPath=67&products_id=76
but for S-chassis

Are you talking about the firewall brace that bolts to the area under the windshield lower trim piece?

Bump for update.

I'm getting the clutch redone completely. In addition to these:

* New OEM master cylinder
* Taka Motorsports braided line from master cylinder to slave/operating cylinder
* Nismo slave/operating cylinder

I'm also getting these:

* New slave/operating cylinder dust boot
* Nismo release fork
* Exedy Stage 2 Thick clutch kit
* Fidanza Street flywheel

Is there anything I'm missing that should be replaced? It already has Peak Race transmission mount and Driveshaft Shop 1-piece.

Looks like you've got a good setup to me. Since you're going all out already, how about that hardened clutch fork pivot thingy (I could never remember what that thing is called).

yeah I second the pivot thingy, lol! You definatly need the upgraded fork pivot or all else is for nothing, you'll still have a weak link

its called a pivot ball.
It won't be *entirely* necessary as I'm sure the OE ones are hard enough to handle the pressure..

BUT, it is all I can see that you are missing from the 'available upgrade' list.

Yes, that's this thing. They called it two different names. Anything else?

SPl also sells a performance pivot for less than the Nismo one.

Nismo clutch pedal bracket. Supposedly reinforced and slightly angled for better heel-toe.
I had one on order for a month but the kept having issues getting it so I gave up. Still curious to see one in person.

Do you know where I can get this? I actually really need it since my bracket snapped. Right now it's welded on, but I can feel the pedal moving side to side. I have never seen the Nismo unit before.

I've got the part number somewhere, give me a few hours.

Update with all the parts I ordered. Below is the Nismo clutch fork pivot and slave cylinder, OEM master cylinder, and of course the ultra sexy Taka Motorsport clutch line that goes straight from the master to slave cylinder and bypasses the clutch damper completely.

I have the Exedy and Fidanza on order.

Thanks for everybody's help.
