So i have a 96 240sx and earlier this week i jacked the car up to install my lip, there was gooey stuff dripping on my shirt and i looked to see where it came from and it looked like a t/c rod but i dont really know.. it had a rubber housing and had huge cracks around the rubber and it was leaking... i was wondering what would be the best choice of a new replacement for t/c rod bushing if thats what leaking... and also is there any guide on how to install new ones? Thanks if you guys needs pics because im so unsure of myself i can get them.

T/C bushings are shot. Replacing them, it's easier to pay a shop to press them in unless you don't mind doing a little work.

Get some polybushings from ebay ($25 shipped)

Basically, just torch the old bushings, and try to press out the core using a vice.
if you're successful, the middle of the bushing will slide out in a big goop of rubbery goodness. Then get a hacksaw and carefully cut the small rings that were once part of the bushings. After those are cut, remove them, grease up your new bushings and press them into your t/c rods using a vice. I didn't have a vice at the time, so I just used clamps and slowly tightened them to get the bushings pressed in. Get creative.

tension rod bushing failure is very common on these cars. you can replace the individual bushing with a oem style, or stiffer style bushing, or you can get a aftermarket tension rod and then you can adjust caster as well as eliminate some bushings.

if you need a write up, you suck. its 3 bolts, seriously. undo one, undo another, undo the last one, pop it out, replace whatever your replacing, and redo. you dont really even need an alignment after since its just caster and you cant really adjust it very much.

If you replace the t/c rod with an adj. one like from spl parts then you should get an alignment. If you just replace the bushing I wouldn't bother but if something is out of whack , like it pulls to one side, then I'd go.

You move the tire from it's original position (ie, adjust caster), then you are also changing the toe setting.

For the other suggestion, putting a polyurethane bushing in the T/C rod will cause the front suspension to bind. Go with the NISMO rubber bushing.

www.splparts.com they make an excellent product, those are the ones i plan on getting, and they even come with install instructions for you. yous need to do something about them asap especially if you like your tires with even tread

ps im not affiliated with spl i think they just make an awesome product

SPL parts is the ones I have. I have the older model and have had them on for over 2 years, maybe 3 I can't remember that far. They're still good and the new ones that Kuah is selling now are supposed to be better quality.
