After my old alternator craped out, i installed a new one. And i jump started the car and it ran fine.

Parked the car and turned the engine off, now it wont start up on its own. My guess was the batt must of been drained. So i take it to a batt shop to get it recharged and installed it back in, started up fine.

And my car been sitting in storage while i wait for more parts for about 1 week already. I take it out to run to the bank but it wont start cause the batt is dead...weird cause i just got it fully charged.

Brought the batt back to the shop thinkin the batt is old and wont hold a charge (never changed the batt since i got the car so i have no knowlage of how old the batt is). The guy said the batt is fine, its just my alternator...Now that dosnt make any sense.

So is there a way i can test to see if my alternator works properly or is it my batt?

Thanks

Im having the same exact problem, make sure the voltage when the car is running with the batt fully charged is around 14. If its low 13s your alternator isnt doing its job. You can also check for a drain with a test light wired in series on the negative side, IE unhook the negative terminal and connect that to the battery with a test light with the car off. If it lights up you have a drain.

There may be a few things going on here:

1) The battery may be unable to hold a charge as you suspected. I would get a second opinion on the battery.

2) You have a voltage leak somewhere in the car. It's draining power so the battery is slowly being drained.

3) The alternator may be faulty as well. Check the voltage regulator and make sure it's within the low and high tolerances.

I dont think its 2) because i have nothing else hooked up to this car but the old ass cd deck that came with it. But i will get a new batt today and see how it goes on from there.
