search for it. depends what you want.
i was lookign into it and some people liked the gt30 because it would push more and some liked the gt28 because it spooled faster...im torn id like to seeme car around 400hp but i think they said the gt28 only goes to 350 ill read more into it its just going to have to be a quick fix for the winter because next summer im ripping the car apart redoign internals and then ill know what turbo ill want on it...

could be built up oil from blow-by....Ya know, the hose that goes from the valve cover to the intake? Well, you def. need to run that to a catch can rather than rerouting it back into your engine VIA the air intake.
On the other hand, your seals in your turbo could be going out. This same thing happened to my s13 redtop. Although, smoke was pouring out my exhaust. I would find it hard to belive that a company would sell you an engine with a blown turbo.
Check for shaft play. Look on the exhaust side and check for oil there. If your indoubt i would take the turbo of NOW and let a turbo repair shop check it out. Its easier to get on and off while the engine is out of the car. Not saying its too dificult to take out after installation but, u get the idea.
On turbo options... One would need to decide what the car is going to be used for. Auto X, drift, drag, etc... Once you have that decision made, then decide how much power you plan to make. Personally, i would go with a slightly larger turbo (gt30). But, i dont drift or anything so a bit of lag doesnt bother me. I would say an all around good turbo would be the GT28RS or S15 T28. Hope this helps.

bleh, could just be blow-by. just run and see what happens. upgrading is not necessary at this point unless u want to for peace of mind and ease of installation. up to you.

If I were you, I would go nuts and fix as many things as possible when the motor is out. Just spend as much time and money as you can now. You'll thank yourself later because it costs so much more when the motor is in the car. Just fix it right the first time and enjoy. Check the SR FAQ on top.
That's the air inlet pipe for the turbo. It could either be excessive crankcase pressure blowing blow-by gas into the intake, or the turbo seal is damaged.
At any rate, I highly highly you remove the whole turbo and at least rebuild all the gaskets. It literally takes 5 minutes with the motor sitting out like that.
I would spend maybe another $3-500 or more, and replace all the external stuff you see. I know it sounds like a lot, but all SRs have the same problems and it will cost you much more to do the same thing once the motor is in the car.
Was the motor ever tested before you bought it?
yes it was tested and comes with a 100%start up garentee but when i got it the fule rail was bent upwards so yeah one of the injectors wasnt even seated right so they sent us a new rail but yeah ill deff take the turbo out and as far as shaft play there is none and no oil on the exhaust side so ill pull it off and check the seals

It's illegal t ship motors with oil in them. Just have to hope that the oil spilled out the Valve cover/catch can during shipping and ended up in the turbo.

Its common for a motor to tilt to the side during shipping and get oil all over the turbo...Clean it out good..most likely its just oil that flew into it during shipping..happends all the time...and yes it is illegal to ship motors with oil in them.
so yeah it may be illigal to ship them with oil in them but guess what??? they do.....i have a drive full of oil right now along with a shirt full of it so i just called jazzpro to bitch at them and there like...were not open call back tomorrow so u better bet im calling back

didn't know that shipping engines with oil in them is illegal. Both my SR's from Phase2motortrend came with oil in them. hmmmmm

Mine looked similar when I got it. It was just blowby oil. Turbo was fine and the motor has been perfect with very little blowby. I think you should try to use it and upgrade later if need be. Just run a catch can like the other guy was saying.
BTW, i bet if you look in the intake mani behind the throttle body, there is a puddle of oil in there as well.
there was a puddle there and i took the entire mani off and gave it a hearty servign of engine degreaser and a pressure washer so it looks all sexy now

can broken valve stem seals cause oil in the turbo like that?
Thanks

they could possibly cause oil on the exhaust side of the turbo, but his oil is on the intake side.
