I should have posted this a long time ago, but whatever. I figure I would post this here since quite a bit of people frequent this section. I have a friend in the body kit building business and currently prototyped a set of carbon fiber headlamp covers for my car. They look pretty good. They only need a bit of work on the fitment, but on the car they look pretty good. I just wanted to see who would be interested in possibly getting a group buy going to give the guy some incentive to keep working on them and possibly mass producing them. He is also working on a CF hatch for S13s. If anyone is interested lemme know and I'll pass the word on to him. I'll post pictures of the headlamp covers once I clean them up.

What kind of finish is he using? Is it full CF or CF over fiberglass?

Sorry about ot getting pictures up today. I had work and that took the whole day. The covers are CF backed with fiberglass. His work is top notch though. He made an frp replica of a Buddy Club Mk1 MR2 lip and twisted it 180 degrees. Insane.

Pictures uploaded. PM me if you want hi-res pictures. Please not these are the prototypes. They were the first set he has made. His next sets will be better with the buffing and fitment wise.
Excuse the dirty car.

Pretty cool, a set to me isnt worth it.
IMHO it wont generate a lot of money. It light, but compare that to the thin metal to the stocker.. it doesnt a lot of weight. Maybe if he adds a little vent or something it will have some function, other than that it is just a pretty peice.

The vent in the headlamp cover is useless because if you look right behind your headlamp assembly, there's a piece of metal, lol. We talked it over and came to the conclusion it's be best and easiest to make it non vented. I know it doesnt reduce much weight, but it's mostly for looks and for matching with a CF hood. I'll get in contact with him soon to figure out how many more he can make after perfecting the mold. Like I said, those were his first set, the prototypes, so his next sets will be a whole lot better.

wow..180 for no name home made carbon fiber? i was thinking it should be closer to 99. the fitment and cutting is off and you have too much resin around the edges.. if you vaccum infused the resin you should have a much better product.

Not true...most of the junk blocking the airflow can be removed or trimmed, as I did on my car with a headlight scoop...I will take some pics later & post them here...

hmm... they look pretty good. you're making me wish i was keeping my CF hood. :( i'm going with yellow kevlar to match my car color soon. what do you think? CF on the head lights and yellow kevlar on the hood? do you think it'll look weird? i think i'm going to have problems. my hood and hatch will be yellow, but i'm not sure how to get my apr side view mirrors or spoiler to match. how to do? :P

With regards to the quality of the first set, it was the first set every. As I stated before, he's going to improve on it and on it's fitment.

Those look quite nice...but what you should REALLY be looking at making is sunroof replacement panels...because I would then be interested. I know someone makes them for the S14, but not the S13. And it has some sort of magnet mechanism to hold it in place. Actually, if someone happens to know off by hand which company makes them, could you please let me know? If not, then I will just have to start searching the forum, because I think it was posted on Zilvia sometime back.

What doi you mean what pattern is it? It's straight carbon fiber. Is 180 too much for everyone?
what he wants to know is what weave pattern are they using? twill? plain? satin? is it 2x2 or what? what grade is it? if we had a carbon fiber hood with twill weave we would want the headlight covers with the same weave obviously.
and also what manufacturer is making these? and yes 180 is to much for those.

Oh, I see. Hmmm, well, if 180 is too much for everyone, I'm sure he could knock down the price a good amount so that everyone can get somethign out of it. With regards to the pattern, I'll have to ask. What would be a more reasonable price? I remember seeing regular fiberglass covers going for like 100 bucks each (not the pair).

are you not telling us what brand they are because it is a shitty brand or something? just wondering.... i'd figure if it was something good you would have told us already.

It's not a specific brand. The dude makes them in house. His business is call Carfashion Online. He sells bodykits and stuff and if you pay him whatever, he can make custom stuff also.

K, I got more info. Right now he's making me a new and improved set, so Ill post pics once they are done. With regards to the pattern, he can make whatever pattern you want. The ones posted are 2x2 but just let him know what pattern you want and he will do it, so you guys can have your covers match your hood weave. He's also cool with dropping the price to 150 for the pair. Right now he's improving the fitment and also blacking out the edges. I'll post pics once they get done and are installed. Local Irvine and 626 people have seen the covers in person already, so expect an improvement from those.
S14BD, you have PM about the buddy club lip.

I'll definately pick up a pair sometime soon. I appreciate the drop to $150. Every little bit counts. Any chance you can get me in contact with this guy? I would love to get a bunch of interior carbon fiber work done.

If you're local to SoCal, then getting to him will be a breeze. After he covers he's gonna owkr on getting a hatch made and I'm gonna ask him about making the door panel inserts made in CF since those sold like hotcakes last time someone made them.
