Who needs paint jobs? I do.
I'm tired of two tone gray/black.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a195/onathan525/DSC00237.jpg

Should I paint it myself.
Not looking to spend more than say.. $800 on it.
I can prep myself.
Anyone have advice on how to spray?

Let's chat about how to spray a damn car.
Prime, Base, clear right?

I need help, I don't really want to do it myself.
Let's painting!

why dont you try and go to that place in SF that provides paint booths and accessories for rent...i guess prep before hand and maybe even mask everything except glass...to save time in booth...paintings not hard, its the prep work that makes or breaks the results...

EDIT: 95zilvia, if you get a paint job at a decent place, let me know...ill go in on it with you; maybe we can get a discount...im in dire need of paint too...

I know several places where I can paint myself.
But I dont want to waste money on the paint if I know I'll suck at it.
I want it to be pretty nice as I don't plan on getting paint jobs often.

Im done with spray can paint jobs!

Yo, have you considered taking it to the place where kingsol got his done? It's not DIY, but it'll be a good price and you'll know it'll come out lookin hot.

Sunny Auto Body on portrero and 17th st.

He did my wing, rear bumper, and trunk as well..plus another s13 besides don's.

Edit: Nevermind, just read it...

Does anybody know where I can rent a gun? I already have a "booth" of sorts and I don't want to buy a gun...

My uncle does paint job the side. If you want to leave it with him, he can do it. It cheaper if you decide to keep the paint color less than a grand and he will prep. If you want to change color of it i think it ~1500. That what he charges my friends. I can extend that price to anyone. He is located in Sac.

PM me for more info.

I know of plenty of painters, especially since i work at a paint shop :P. Do you want to paint your car so it just won't look so fugly? Or are you planning for this paint job to last a year or two and look really nice? Mason's black and all the other painting stuff needed (reducer, primer, etc.) if you do it yourself should be only a few hundred. Anything else that will last long will depend on the painter and what brand of paint you use. Dupont seems to be the choice of most painters that buy from the shop, considering it is only that and Mason's that are sold.

If anyone wants quotes on how much paint would be just PM me or something, don't ask me how to paint or what you will need. All i do is mix the paint, I'm too lazy to figure out the rest of what is needed for painting.

4 liters (1 gallon) is perfect for an S-Chassis...

95Zilvia: I may take you up on that offer...

08-06-2006, 02:25 AM
nason... u can get half a gallon and reduce it to make 1 gallon.... should be roughly around 150.. blah blah blah blah....the thing about paintin single stage shit is TEMP. atmosphere temp.. if u dont run a heated room or what ever... that shit will run EASY...

reason why ppl use dupont on a regular basis is because... they own the market for the most case.. kinda like how microsoft runs the PC world...

Yeah pretty much. I'm not a painter and I don't know anything for the most part about painting, I had my spoiler painted with Nason's and it stayed good looking for a long while. Just from mixing Nason's you can tell that it runs easy because it is like water pretty much.

When I go back to work on Monday i'll ask a rough estimate on prices for enough paint and everything else to paint an entire 240.

If anyone is in the fremont area the address of the paint store is 4050 peralta. You can either buy the paint and do it yourself or you can ask where you can get it painted since there are a lot of paint stores only blocks away from each other.

If you can do the prep (sand, prime, fix dings) there are plenty of reputable shops in the bay area who would paint it with a basic color for your price. I got my car masked, 3 coats of black, and 2 clear coats for $650 from County Body & Paint on Old County Road in San Carlos. They did a great job.

pictures can never really justify a paintjob.. u have to see it in person.. things u have to look for is fisheyes, orange peel, and sanded marks under the paint.. a badly prepjob ... will be shown thru the paint... cover... if u want a metallic paint job in single stage.. u cant really fix the orange peel... but if u get a solid color.. u can... i prefer solid single stage.. and say if u want pearl over it later.. its possible to do that.. with a quick sand and a coat of pearl with clear on top.........or the cheating method.. which is mixin in the pearl with the clear.... but it doesnt matter since most of u guys will beat ur ride to crap and damage ur body anyhow... so quality shouldnt be a big significance.. but still should be honored....

you guys want to save money on gettin a paintjob... learn the process... and learn the materials.. and how to use tools and materials... thats the only way u can save money... other then that ur pitching the green paper to shops and independant ppl like me...

Well the total cost per vehicle (Paint, base, clear, activator, reducer, and sealer) is about $405 after tax. If you can get together about 5 people for a group buy then the price can be reduced to shop cost.

This is only enough paint for the exterior, it shouldn't be too much more for the door jams and entire interior. This is also a simple color like black or white, nothing exotic. So if anyone is interested tell me.

Ok guys, I am no longer going to paint my car. Because I don't have the funds.
Looks like I'm just going to paint my roof black because of the super faded paint on it, and paint the body kit a matching gray.
I've been lookin around, and since no one has offered a definite yes on painting/providing a booth, I will probably just take it to a shop and paint the minimum to reduce costs.

If anyone can hook it up with a booth/painter, let me know. I'm willing to buy paint.

ouch...supadork.... u know when u buy a can of reducer and sealer, clear and ativator.. u only use a percentage of the material so ur left with excess... aka extra material your gonna have to use in the future or left to be sitting and wasted....

just MAACO or SCHEIWB(how ever u spell it) ur car...650 or so..... get a solid color dont go metallic....and have them make u a can of the paint for the future.. like a quart so u can jamb ur car.. on ur own..... my 2 cents...

Yeah that's the only problem and I can't really help anyone there lol sorry. If anyone is interested and can paint or knows someone that can just PM me. If you can do it yourself I don't think $405 is too much.

Hey I'm in Salinas but I'm DEFINATELY interested in paints too. Though I just moved and I'm extremely low on funds after paying off my previous car.

Though count me in if people around bay area are going to do group buys on paints!

Hahaha, we can buy all the paint we want, but no one will paint cars.
I went a different route, I went to the body/paint shop next to my work, just doin some minor paint there.

Hey, I might not need to borrow your gun... but maybe I will, lol... theres a place that will loan guns if you buy paint from them so I might do that. I guess I'll just give you a call if I do...

Btw, what kind of gun you got?

Hello all too bad you guys are in NOR-CAL cause I paint & I got a hook up deal goin on its posted on club4ag 2 stage paint basic 8 colors jambs incl, engine bay 1 bill xtra if all is removed, color change 1 bill xtra .2 coats(base & clear) or as needed for proper shading. Also paint 4 peice kits 150. Maybe some of the SO-CAL heads will read this but anyhow you all have the correct approach DIY. TIPS- when spraying take your time and look at your coverage, get a peice of scrap and use it to ADJ the gun befor you even point it at the car.The roof & hood will most likely be your problem areas( large surface ) for those you may want to turn up the fluid a little in order to get more wetting action start from the middle and work out. Also mix according to the MDS and allow proper flash times or it will run or dry too fast. If your not spraying in a booth clean your are well . Hope this helps PEACE
