Just curious about the opinions on the VQ35 in a S14 (re:article in the Sept. SCC).

Natural aspiration making somewhere in the ball park of 240-250 to the wheels is interesting. Weight distribution with that motor shouldn't be too bad, but something just doesn't seem right about the swap. Specifically when I think of certain vehicles (i.e. EVO, WRX, 240, Supra, DSM, etc) a turbo application just seems to represent what the car was meant to utilize. I'm not slamming N/A or even the VQ in this platform, but stating what to me represents the car. But being able to make close to 300whp with N/A upgrades is hot! 3.5 = instant torque! Good article.

ive seen it done, the VQ is actaully lighter than the KA and you can mount it further back because its a V6. great swap, or so i hear. just costs a bit of money.

this kinda reminds me of the f20c engine into the s13 except with a nissan engine. mainly cause its NA. seems like an excellent swap if your looking for power on demand.

garbage to me... all that money and time could be spent on something else...
for instince... http://www.hinsonsupercars.com/index.htm
They can put a LS1 V8 into a 240sx.
That's just me though

so whats the word on engine mounts for this setup?
so let me get this straight, you used the fwd vq35 with rwd intake manifold? you would figure to just use an entire 350z motorset and tranny...but the reason why you didn't use rwd vq35 w/ the rwd intake manifold is because of the positioning of the intake manifold hitting the firewall correct?
I might be wrong..lol

I believe the reason was cost and I think he got maxima motor cheap or free.
All your questions are answered in his thread in Fresh Alloy.

I got a good deal on the FWD motor, they are much cheaper than the RWD version anyway. When using the FWD motor you need motor mount brackets like I made. If using the RWD motor you may not need any brackets or spacers at all, still untested.

I can't wait to do mine in my S13 convertible.. Fred is really helpful and it is very kind of him! :)

I find that hard to believe that the VQ35 350Z engine will bolt right in. If someone can confirm how close the fitment is, maybe some "minor" modification to make it fit may be worth it

Don't get me wrong, I didn't say "it would bolt right in", that's how rumors and internet legends get started
I said "you may not need any brackets or spacers at all, still untested"
From what i've see my motor mount brackets put my mounts in nearly the same position as the stock Z motor mount brackets so it follows that the Z motor should be a close fit with the Z brackets/mounts.
The bottom line is this: If making motor mount brackets is a deal breaker for you then you really shouldn't start a project like this.
