I am looking for a 240sx to do a swap...but in new to this, is an auto good for a swap? Will the Trans hold the power?

u mean just swap the stock auto 240sx tranny for a stock 240sx manual tranny? if so, completely fine...Welcome, by the way...

autos are usually better taken care of. I think you are going to be buying an auto and converting to manual *from what I gather* In that case you will be switching out the entire tranny.
Try looking for a manual tranny car right off the bat.

um what
when you swap the engine, you typically swap the tranny with it

I think he's asking if an auto ka tranny will hold turbo power thats produced. Right? or what

i think he's confused and think that if he swaps in a turbo motor he will have to keep the auto trans.

You need to be a lot more specific in your question. What are you swapping? Engine? Trans? Seats? Tires? Ashtray? And if you are planning on SR and want an auto, just buy an auto SR, they are a little harder to track down, but are cheaper than manuals.

Sorry, I meant that if I buy a 90 240sx auto and want to swap a turbo motor in it, can I keep the auto or will it not "fit", will I have to get a manual trans? If I can leave the auto, is the stock trans strong enough to hold the power of the turbo?
I found a nice clean 240 but its an auto...what do you guys recomend. I just want to have a 240 as a fun car to drive, my daily driver is a G35 coupe right now.

Depends on what turbo motor. Another ka24e-t or what? But most of the time you get the trany with the engine when you buy one.
But if you want a fun car, sell the 240 and get coilovers for the g35!!

you need to be more specific when you say turbo motor... you can get a KA-T then you can just slap it with your KA auto tranny but if your gettin an SR you need to used an SR tranny auto or manual...
i had my auto to manaul 240sx conversion with the SR
and i regret not buying a manual 240 instead (well it was hard to find a manual coupe at that time)
jsust get a manual 240 saves you the headache and the money

im assuming you're referring to an sr. when you swap the motor out, you swap it out with the trans. yea they have auto sr's so you'll be running the trans thats with the motorset/frontclip. there wont be an issue of whether or not it "fits," but theres seriously no point in swapping in an auto-sr.

ka tranny != sr tranny (unless you swap the internals, but that's another story) I'm not sure why you would want a turbo'd automatic car, but if you do it is entirely possible, you jus tneed to find an SR that comes with an auto tranny instead of a manual.

Why isn't it a point to having automatic turbo? If someone doesn't want to have to shift but wants turbo, what's wrong with that? It all depends on the person's plans for the car.
To answer the poster's question: Yes, the auto will hold the power. Just be sure to get the auto trans that came with the the jdm engine that you'd want to swap in.

because with an auto you're limited in many aspects. not worth the trouble and the money if your plans are just to have fun. nothing wrong at all with wanting an auto-turbo car.

yes but ivan use's a 300zx transmission or so i've heard, and btw whoever said that turboing an auto is dumb, well ur dumb because alot of drag cars run autos, because they can tune it to run super consistant and fast, so i wouldnt go knocking it because u might be at the strip and get owned by an automatic and then where will u be.
