Ok so i recently purchased a 89 coupe. The car came with some cheap no-name coilover springs on the front. So i tried mounting stock teardrop wheels w/ 205/60 size tires and the tires rubbed against the spring by alot. I was really suprised by this so i checked the FSM and it said that the stock tire size was 195/60, which made me think that was the reason why the 205/60 tires didnt fit. So i ended up using the original set of wheels that were on the car when i first bought it.

Fast forward to this last weekend. I purchased some advan sa3r wheels. The fronts are 17x7 +32 offset and the tires are 215/45 size tires. Now these tires fit better than the stock teardrops i tried before but they are EXTREMELY close to touching the springs again. Im not entirely sure if it is actually rubbing against it or not because it is THAT close. However, the guy who i bought the wheels from had no clearance problems whatsoever with the same wheels. The wheels dont look cambered at all when mounted.

So im kinda worried that there is something wrong w/ my front suspension. Any ideas as to why? Could it be the cheap coilovers causing the problem? The front is lowered pretty low, but its not tucking in the wheel well or anything.

Any ideas please?

lol. first thing you should do is throw away those cheap ass $30 ebay coilovers. at least replace them with stock stuff.

Get lower offset wheels or spacers, end of story. I have 17x9.5 +15 that rub without a small spacer, no big deal. Camber has nothing to do with coilover to wheel clearance, unless youre adjusting from the spindle, which can only go so far. If you adjust from the camber plate, the coilover and the wheel move together, so clearance doesnt change.

Alright, looks like im gonna have to just run spacers. I have a pair of 7mm spacers right now but if i use them it doesnt leave me with much thread on the studs to mount the wheels. Our thread pitch is 12x1.25, but can someone tell me the stock thread length for s13 wheel studs? So that i can buy longer wheel studs.

Thanks

Autozone has a book that shows the dimensions of all the wheel studs they carry, i just looked and looked and found a stud that was about 3/8" Longer, it was a piece of cake, the splined area was a few hundreths larger, but it still pressed in, it was just a little stiff.
