Ok fellas i just got my 5 speed tranny + parts, but theyre pretty filthy so i want to wash em before the tranny swap. now i know this is probably a stupid question, but ill ask it anyways: is there any specific type of cleaner i should be using to wash this type of stuff? or should i just use water & scrub? i want to be careful since these are internal components, & i dont want to mess anything up. any help is greatly appreciated! thanks!!
For the exterior I would follow Avalonracing.net's basic degreasing guide (http://www.avalonracing.net/enginedet1.htm)
For interior components I think I'd just use water. You wouldn't want any chemicals interacting with oil or heat incase you didn't rinse well enough.

use a parts washer if you have access to one...some of them use water and some kind of soap, cant remeber if its chemicals or not, and the other type uses mineral spirits i believe, this one you use the hands and a scrub brush, and the other one you just put the parts in it and set it and it cleans them for you, we used to have both at my garage now we just have the one you use by hand, it seemed to work the best...so you can use soap and water, just make sure after you clean them to dry them off...and by interal parts i assume you mean you have your tranny apart and your talking about the gears and what not it it...and if your just talking about the tranny itself, just pressure wash it if you have access to one...hope this helped atleast alittle

A parts washer is best, but if you don't have access to that I'd use Brake cleaner.
