View Full Version : I am SO PISSED

Ok,
I need help!!!
I have a basically stock KA24E with a header, straight exhaust, intake, that is about it.
It is STUPID. Sometimes the CEL is on and it wont rev past 4500. Sometimes it goes to 7 and will bounce off the rev limiter, sometimes it goes to 7 and cuts but still goes to 7 at least I dont need to be that high anyway.
Any idea what it can be!?
It is SLOW AS HELL. I know I know it is a KA24E but, it seems like it should be a little quicker. NO TORQUE. I do need a clutch, and want to upgrade to a lightweight flywheel with that. Will that help a tad?
I have had nothing but problems...and some fun though when everything is running and working PERFECT.
Any help greatly appreciated.
I am 18, to make it better, my parents just bought my lil 16 year old bro a nice, clean, running 93 SE Coupe, but luckily he is selling me the SE wheels, the S14 seats in it, the electric fan setup, but my car will still run like a POS.
Sorry for venting. Any help like I said is more then greatly appreciated.

check your mafs, and all vacuum lines and all electrical stuff... sounds like an odd connection problem...

Try what the person above said first. Seem like you're having these two problems. One try reset the ECU first. Turn off your car and disconnect the terminals for 1 minute then put it back on. Turn on the car and see if anything change. If that doesn't work then your clutch is slipping. That's why you're not getting tourqe, the car just over rev and not going anywhere. Check those two and let us know.

He knows what he has, if he has S14 seats to my S13's he will notice lol

HAHA, omg, what took so long for this response? That's really the only way to see what the prob is. Just go to autozone and they'll hook u up. I just too my 95 there and to my surprise you can use and obdII scan tool w/ the 95, it works perfectly and it even fits the obd port.

Click on the following link:

Look to the left & scroll down till you get to "ECM reading trouble codes SOHC". Follow those instructions & post your results here.....The Diagnostic Trouble Codes, (DTC) will tell you what to look at to repair your problem. Chances are you might have a shorted out wire leading to your MAF. Most KA24E's I've run across usually involve wiring harnesses with frayed or cracked wires. It's bound to happen sooner or later. It's all due to the extreme heat your motor generates as it runs. Your harness is 17 years old!!
It is SLOW AS HELL. I know I know it is a KA24E but, it seems like it should be a little quicker.
When you got the car, did you perform a major tuneup on it? Swap out the air, gas & oil filters? Spark plugs, distributor cap & rotor? Pour a can of fuel injector cleaner in your gas tank & spray some carb cleaner down the throttle body? Check for any cracked, broken or leaky vacuum lines?? Adjust/tighten up your throttle cable where it connects to your throttle body?? Replace the tranny & diff oils?? Swap out your stock plastic intake to an Injen air intake system?? http://www.enjukuracing.com/
All these little factors help to improve your engine's performance. Seeing that your 89 is about 17 years old, your car is gonna need a lot of attention from you. But seeing how you're willing to learn about the car, best bet is see if you can get your hands on a Factory Service Manual & start reading up on it. It really helps in times like these.

Echo got my repmessage.
Damn, you guys sidetrack too much.
Check your maf, make sure its still good.
If CEL is on, check the ECU, pull the codes, make sure its the correct codes by doing it again, and then onto troubleshooting.
DL the FSM, if not already mentioned at zeroyon.____ and everything should be right as rain.
Seriously, 8 posts to finally get to one that is probably the best choice/productive answer? Jeeez!

Pull the cell to pinpoint exactly what it is. People brought up the maf, another thing that could cause this is a bad o2 sensor too. Also a bad water temp sensor can cause it to bog like that.

Ok cool. Well when I got the car I changed the fuel pump because it was running odd and I thought that was a problem, so fuel pump, spark plugs, wires, sadely that is about it. So I guess I need to go to Autozone :) .
I will check for codes, I tried once and I cannot figure out how to get the ECU out I read directions but still was hard. I'll give it another shot. Thanks everyone for your help!

When I worked for Nissan we would see cars with a bad ground for MAF sensor. Try running a diredt ground to there.

IIRC, there are 2 bolts holding the ECU onto the pass. side kickpanel. Size 10, but might be wrong. Most likely wrong, but oh well. All you need from there is a flat head, and reading skills.
GO DL THE FSM! IT'LL BE YOUR BIBLE!
